Looking to prep for a spring garden and I'm in the market for a rear tine garden tiller.

I've had several people tell me that old Troy-bilt Tillers are the best. Are new Troy-Bilt tillers still high quality?

Any thoughts on a brand and model that's good for moderate use would be appreciated.

My price range is around $1000-$1300

Troy-bilt. Don't know about the new ones. I have an old "Horse" model that's pushing 30 years old and has been solid.

Honda – if you have a big garden or use it often its hard to beat a Honda. My dad and I share a rwartine honda (6hp engine) – it going on 15 yrs old. Starts 2nd pull and can run it w one hand
Had to use a front tiller last summer at my in laws – that SOB beat me up – don’t know why I didn’t bring mine …….

My dad used to always have a craftsman from sears. Not sure about now but they were very heavy back then.

It's not worth it to buy one just for a small-medium backyard garden. You can rent one from Home Depot for $50/day. If only using it once a year, it would take a long time to make it worth purchasing one. And the good thing about it is they usually rent nice Hondas that are pretty expensive if you are to buy one.

Yeah, I didn't even consider renting. That may be what I do until I figure out if I even have a green thumb. I'm guessing I don't

Plus they'll start it for you. Using it once a year can lead to a lot of headache.
