What does the OB think about all the new 9mm 1911's introduced at shot show?

Well Remington released an R1 9mm and Springfield released a Range Officer 9mm.

I've never fired one but heard they're fun. That's about all I would use them for though - fun. For the 9mm cartridge, there are much better options out there for defensive purposes. But I wouldn't mind shooting a 9mm 1911 at the range all day long.

They have been showing up in my feeds and notifications all week. I knew there were a few out there, but it appears mfgr's are opening up new production lines.

I've also been seeing $300-400 1911's showing up as well.

Well my Kahr CM9 weighs a fraction of what a 9mm 1911 weighs and it is only down 1 or 2 rounds depending on what magazine you use. It is also dimensionally dwarfed by a 9mm 1911 as well, which is good if you plan on carrying it.

With a full size magazine, my SR9c can hold 17+1 at the ready and it still weighs less than a steel 9mm 1911. It may be slightly wider, but it makes up for being slightly wider by having a shorter barrel and frame and being better for carry.

I love 1911s, don't get me wrong. But the platform was built around 45 ACP. I'm sure the 9mm variants in this platform are fun for the range but there are better options for carry.

Then again, this is all my opinion. The end user obviously gets the final say.

I won a Springfield Custom stainless 9mm 1911 at an IDPA match in Houston 10-12 years ago. Very nice (pretty) gun.

But for CCW I'd still take a Glock 19 (or 17, or 26)over the 1911 --just because I have more confidence in reliability of the Glock

I had a STI Trojan 9mm, really nice pistol. One of those I should have kept. I just dont like target/adjustable sights on a 1911.
