Tired of my old wal mart clunker and looking for suggestions on a reliable all purpose mountain bike to cruise the streets and some trails by the river. I am no OT baller so I can't drop big money on one. What do y'all ride?

TIA

I thought some dude busted his balls on a mountain bike and had a five-week erection? If so, maybe you need to look at a girls bike?

Got a Trek now but looking to get a Specialized or Giant. Any of those 3 are great bikes.

Diamondback overdrive 29er

Frame is $1000 quality with decent, not great, components and forks.

It'll run you $600 but you may find a deal somewhere. Huge bang for the buck. Yes.....I have one.

Eta: $534 on amazon right now.

Specialized Hardrock Sport. It's an 07 model, and I got it for $350 back then. I've been very pleased with it.

I ride a Gary fisher. If I were doing it all over i'd probably go specialized.

I can do 4-$600. The bike I have now is a next? From walmart and it is. Clunker. I think I paid $99 for it a couple of years ago.

The specialized hard rock and the diamondback look nice. Wish I could test ride them

Hit up any decent bike shop and they will have something for you. Any of the big name bikes(Specialized, Trek, etc) will be good. Get the best you can afford.

.....$600 is cheap for a quality hard tail. Most run well north of $800 and easily hitting $1200.

I see bikes in 10g range, 600 is a drop in the bucket.

Op, not sure where you are but, if you can find a Jamis dealer, they have really nice bikes for the money.

whatever brand you choose, I recommend going with a 29er, seems to be becoming the standard.

Wheel size.....it's the new big, smooth riding standard.

Go with it.

ETA: Ross with you budget, the diamondback is your bike. The specialized are wonderful but typically way more expensive and not near bang for the buck. The diamondback frame is easily as good in quality.
