Moving to St. Tammany Parish soon from Texas and have been told that certain farm animals can reduce your property taxes. Anyone have any idea where this can be researched or confirmed? I'd like to read up on it. I've searched but haven't came up with anything, although I'm not exactly sherlock holmes on the computer.

Well sorry I can't contribute to the overall knowledge of where to find out exactly.

But I am 100% on goats. Claim your land as farm land = Profit.

If you let someone cut it for hay it will be classified as farmland. Thats the easiest thing to do.

If your land is classified as agricultural use your valuation for property tax purposes is capped--I believe at $600 an acre. A huge benefit in St. Tammany.

If the land is not presently classified as such by the assessor I would ask them just what it takes to change back to the classification. Timber is the same story.

All your NIMBY neighbors will love you when that tractor cranks up at 6 in the morning.

You could start with a call to the St. Tammany Parish assessor's office.

Thanks for the responses. I'll have to call the assessor's office, was trying to avoid it.
