Have to drive to pecan island Saturday and was thinking about bringing the kids and trying to catch a few BLUE crabs with some string, chicken, etc?

I haven't been crabbing in my adulthood

I see traps all over the place, so I know they're there

Just not sure if it's a good time or not

I have never caught crabs unless it was the middle of the summer...not sure why, though...

They tend to burrow in mud in the cold, not a complete shutdown, but they slow down a lot.
The smartest crabber in my neighborhood does crabs in summer and oysters in winter.
