Do the Saints need a new Special teams coach?

I have posted many times my wish for Coach Payton to move on and get a new special teams coach. Sadly CSP seems to value consistent mediocrity when it come to his special teams performance.
Greg McMahon has been with Payton since 06 and ST coach since 08.
Phily and NO are the bottom dwellers of the teams that made the playoffs while 3 of the top ten ranked ST's are in the final four.
2013 bottom feeders per Football Outsiders:
24 NO
25 PHI
26 TEN
27 ARI
28 NYG
29 HOU
30 BUF
31 OAK
32 WAS
Our ST avg ranking using Outsiders since 08 is 22nd. LINK
We have heard all the excuses over the years but in the end the product is always near the bottom year after year.

Having a legitimate kick returner would be a fantastic start at least. Can't say we've had an elite one since Beerman.

A subject that is always overlooked, but definitely important. Yes, I'd agree that an upgrade is needed here. It probably won't happen unfortunately

I mean clearly. They've needed a new one for years.

Doesn't seem like the Asian guy is helping much. Unless it's a scheme issue. I thought that when we hired the Asian that we should have just fired McMahon and made him ST coordinator.

It's time for a change at KR and PR for sure but we just discovered that this year. Our kick coverage on the other hand has been an issue for years and is inexcusable.

I personally don't think the blame can solely be put on Sproles but instead the blocking during these plays. Sproles is still very quick, not blazing fast(never was) but very quick. It seemed everytime he attempted the punt return, he had a defender in his face. Having to make that first sudden juke for the defender throws off the return timing. I say get new ST coach, get more physical on punt returns (you don't have to hold to be physical)...

I agree we really just need a better return man. Sproles is not really a KR anymore at least not at this age...should have used Cadet more for KR

I've been on this for a coupla yrs myself. I've admired Payton not being satisfied until he got the right defensive coordinator. I really don't have hope for McMahon though, it has gone on so long.
Dunno if the Eastern Illinois roots has sumpin to do with it.

Coverage has improved a lot, at least I think it has... it might just be that under the new rules there are so few run-backs that it's hard to gauge. Regardless, our ability to return punts and kicks blows and has for a long time.
