it's that way at just about every SEC school and others in the south. Most basketball teams have athletes playing basketball and not true basketball players. The coaching in high school isn't that good compared to football. Outside of UF and UK, most teams just aren't that good. Sure you will have an occasional stretch by a team where they can make a run, but for the most SEC basketball is just bad. The coaches can't teach the fundamentals and most players don't have them. I've heard the same complaints about LSU basketball from alot of other SEC schools.

Fine. Can we at least aspire to be 3rd in the SEC pecking order?

Getting housed by Tennessee at home and losing to Ole Mess is not where I'd like to reside in the pecking order.

This does not explain the 5* talent that you see almost every year in places like Dallas, Memphis, Atlanta, etc.

But the SEC used to put many more teams in the tourney each year. Why has it gotten so bad throughout the entire league?

Key word there is "talent". I will admit, I don't watch a lot of college basketball outside of LSU, and then tournament time, but these great talents get to college and have no idea how to pass the basketball or play team defense.

So you're saying the SEC isn't a basketball conference? What a profounding discovery. And you're blaming it on Louisiana High School Basketball coaches? Interesting assessment.

Where did I say just Louisiana High School Basketball?? If you can't see how bad the fundamentals and coaching are on most SEC teams I can't help you.

Yes.

Wiggins was supposed to be Lebron 2.0. Yet he just looks really really athletic, not necessarily basketball skilled.

You really think that LeBron was a completely polished player coming out of HS?

I always wondered why southern schools don't dominate basketball like they do football. Same demographics for recruiting.

So, just all high school coaches in general? That is a pretty broad speculation.

Teams typically nationally recruit for basketball. The coaches in the SEC need to do a better job at it, or at the minimum recruit the best talent regionally instead of complaining about how their conference is not respected more.

not really

basketball recruiting is much more centered around urban population areas b/c of the "freak" requirements of basketball

there are a lot more 5-10 - 6-1 athletes out there than 6-7+ athletes

the south doesn't have that many urban population centers. the east coast, midwest, west coast, and Texas, do

So I guess you believe high school basketball in LA and the South are at a high level in the fundamental area??

I agree. It is interesting to watch an SEC game and see just how long the teams can play without a halt to the action due to fouls and turnovers. SEC basketball is basically a better version of street ball with very good athletes who as you say are not really basketball players. The league in general has been pretty bad for years.

I have no idea. I don't watch high school basketball, ever. I'm just trying to figure out what point you're trying to make.
