We were in that part of the country last weekend. I like to sample the local wares, so I travel with a cooler. The Ville Platte, Mamou, Eunice area is always good for small meat markets.

At Don's I hit the fresh boudin and cracklins at the counter. Boudin was great , the cracklins were meh. I grabbed two packs or about 3 pounds of fresh pork smoked sausage.

MSG.

I just saw the label as I was unwrapping it. :yak: I tried a link of it. It has a very weak smoke like flavor. The MSG is overbearing though. Why? I'm not eating the rest.

I thought Don's was some sort of gold standard in that area.

Great pre packaged meat in the cooler and plate lunches. Terrible boudin. Just my opinion though.

Should've just loaded up there, best boudin, sausage (smoked, green, & specialty), best fresh cut meats, & best specialty meats (ponce, grillades, stuffed deboned fryers, etc). I'm not a big cracklin fan but I will say VP, Mamou, & Eunice are better at boudin, sausage, & specialty meats than they are at cracklins

A dude I know broke his tooth on a pork chop sandwich from there. They should not have bones in a sandwich.

Dons boudin is pretty good but there is much better out there. Their sausage is terrible. I made the mistake of getting it once but never again

I think you mean local fares. And the hog head cheese there is awesome.

I don't understand the love for this. I think there is so many better types of sausage, and so many better things to do with a ribeye. It just doesn't do it for me. Seems like a waste.
