A lot of discussion going on about changes to the lottery. How about this:

Owners and GM 2 on 2 tournament. Owner and GM of the bottom teams play in a double elimination tournament.

Owner and GM team
2-10 minute halves
Tourney winner gets top pick and down the line
Joey Crawford to officiate

Wins after elimination.

That way the worst team still gets the best chance, but sucking in March and April works against you so you have to try to keep winning.

A really bad team might go 5-15 after elimination. A borderline playoff team will go 1-1 after elimination.

so the 50 win 9 seed in the west who gets eliminated on the last day of the season picks higher than a 12 win team who's been eliminated for 4 months?

No. Is wins AFTER elimination. Since they have no more games after the elimination game, they would have zero wins, and would be the last non-playoff team to draft.

You would assume the 12 win team has won something since elimination. However, you still could have some team with maybe 30 wins pick higher but that is the point, to discourage tanking.

That makes more sense. Though I'm not sure how it discourages tanking at all. Losing games to be eliminated and continuing to lose pays off

Once you're eliminated you just completely quit

yeah i actually think it would make tanking worse because then it's a race to be eliminated first..

I honestly could care less about tanking.

So the Bobcats/Hornets will have the #1 pick for a long time.

Not really. I actually think the system is fine the way it is. The talk of tanking has increased so much this year because of the expected depth of talent at the top of the draft this year.

The NBA is a star driven league, but it also driven by markets. Some teams can't just expect to be able to lure a big time free agent to their team. They have to build a team through trades and the draft.

Go back to the way it was. The worst team gets the most lottery balls and the best team gets one ball. If the best team wins the lottery ala Orlando in 1993 then so be it! It seems like the lottery is only between the bottom 3-5 teams now which makes tanking more enticing.
