Does a business having BBB membership matter to you?

I always noticed the BBB logo on businesses and ads. When I got my business and looked into it, I find it was a paid for thing.
It's not like I originally thought, where those businesses were awarded for having high ratings, like trip advisor does.
No.
It's you pay $400 a year and they let you use the logo and allow people to rate you on that site.
I'm on yelp and other review sites. I get $400 in a year isn't bad for advertising costs. But there are already so many costs out there, I'm trying to decide if this is worth it?

The BBB is powerless, useless, and worthless .. So .. No ... Who are they ? What do they do ? You just have to pay dues and you're a member ..

I can speak only as a customer. I had forgotten about the BBB and I pretty much use Yelp to check out a new business. My guess is that it's not worth it.

That's pretty much how I feel about it, at least as far as seeing the sticker on a door or the internet rating.

You can be a piece of crap person with zero business ethics, pay dues, and you can flash the logo .. So what does that mean ?

It's a money grab under the guise of crap rooted in the 1960s and 70s ..

interesting...I actually thought it was some type of governing body...
I can't say that I have ever made a decision based on feedback from the organization...

I've always thought it was funny people threaten to call the BBB like they are some federal agency that makes businesses give customers what they want.

it's only helpful if they have negative feedback online on the BBB site?

Exactly. Pay $395 recurring and $35 sign up fee.
It is just too very the right to use that logo in ads.
Now some old timers do ask me about it. But most seem to use yelp or angies list.

I know. In all the Riverside towing threads people say "call the BBB"
Now the lady (who sounds like she is in her 70's) who keeps calling me, says they will mediate claims against businesses. They also make sure a person was really a customer before they review. But I find myself pretty savvy when it comes to finding out about places and I've never checked a BBB grade. I was also told I would start with an "A" and that I had two pending positive reviews.

I've had my own business going on 9th yr now. Never joined. Company I used to work with had a complaint filed against them, the BBB asked for their side of it. They provided paperwork and other things proving the person filing the complaint had an unsubstantiated claim and wasn't truthful. The final rendering by the BBB simply stated they had an unresolved complaint after they looked into it. They're worthless and just a scam.

My company been around 130 years. Had my first ever bbb complaint. Complete customer fault. But it's a good way to get hijacked into having to resolve a dispute even though you are not wrong. I tried making the customer happy but he was not satisfied with my way so he runs and hides behind BBB. Pussy.

I used to be a member and decided not to renew membership. It's basically a waste of time. Kind of like the chamber of commerce.

I have gotten jobs from that. I like also getting to meet business owners in the area.

Back when it was tough to get reviews on businesses, the BBB made more sense. Today it's largely a waste of time IMO. Whenever I see a BBB logo I think to myself "Huh, they're still around?"

I refuse to shop/eat at BBB places
