I can't figure out why people want him as their HC?

This is his last shot to be a long-term NFL HC. He's got to make sure to pick the right team/fit, IMO. Smart of him to pull out of consideration.

this is just coachspeak for: "The Browns told me I was no longer on their final list to be considered, so I'm saving face and removing my name publicly"

Would love to see him stay as OC

Would only want him to take over for Bill if Bill had GM control

The Browns and Lombardi LOVE mcdaniels, the latter is enamored with him and anything Patriots, so i doubt this is the case

He probably just didnt like the way they handled the last coaching situation and wants to be certain of a place before he goes to be a HC again because its probably his last chance. And he probably dreams of running the Pats after BB retires/dies on the field

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Patriots OC Josh McDaniels has withdrawn his name from consideration to be the Browns' next head coach. Per Schefter's source, McDaniels had "an awesome" interview with the Browns over the weekend, but it "isn't the right time for him to become a head coach." McDaniels knows he likely only has one more head-coaching shot after his disaster run in Denver, so he needs to make sure it's the right one. Cleveland doesn't have a quarterback or a running back, the Browns brass seems to be a bit dysfunctional, and McDaniels already has a cushy gig coaching Tom Brady. Taking all those things into account, McDaniels is going to keep waiting. He's only 37 years old and could be in line to succeed Bill Belichick.

This is the coaching euphamism for "he didn't get the job"
