Creative ways to go "Across The Pond"

Back in the day, I used to hear stories about people hopping a ocean-going freighter to go to Europe and working your way across. A few years ago, a guy in the thoroughbred horse business said you could hitch a ride with an air transport service to bring horses back and forth between the U.S. and Europe - if you lent a hand as a groom.
Hoping you guys might have some other creative ways to get to Europe and by-pass the conventional methods. I don't need to be in the lap of luxury.

Buy a ticket; works most of the time.

64 year old Kayaker Completes Trans-Atlantic Voyage
quote:
Aleksander Doba, a 64-year-old native of Poland, took off from Dakar, capital of the west African nation of Senegal, back on Oct. 26. After 98 days, 23 hours, 42 minutes at sea, Doba and his custom 23-foot-long, 39-inch-wide human-powered kayak landed at Acaraú, a city on Brazil’s northeast coast. The trip covered some 3,320 miles in all, and Doba became only the fourth known person to accomplish such a feat, and the very first to do it nonstop.

You could mail yourself over there. On time this dude from Czechoslovakia mailed himself to America. Authorities of course caught wind of this when he was in transit. When asked to comment all the would say was the Czech's in the mail.

That's my kind of humor. Can't help but let out a simple "ha" to that.

I can't find a price. How much do these cruises cost?

I looked and did not see a price either. Seems like , if I remember correctly, these freighter cruses are not very expensive at all.
This is a tad off subject, but this is another cruse I'd like to take....

And then go and do the same thing in Europe...

Keep in mind however that you'll be at sea for about 50 days.

I just looked at a Charleston to Le Havre. It's 90 euro a day per person if you are a couple. The trip is 9 days. That puts you at 1620 euro. Plus 275 euro per person for port fees, you're looking at 2170 Euro for two people, or $2950 USD.

I'm instantly interested. Is this a common thing?
