Pelicans granted permission to reps of the D-League's leading scorer Pierre Jackson to find a trade, sources said. Pels own his draft rights

He makes no salary so he'd either have to be packaged with someone or we'd get a pick/draft rights back.

I guess the question is "What do we get in return for such a guy?"
The minimum return on him should be a 2014 2nd. I'm not sure what more someone would be willing to offer on him.

Yeah, there's not much incentive to trade him just for the hell of it. There's no real downside to keeping him and bringing him up next year.
Why he doesn't get an opportunity here is another question though... They drafted the guy. Its not like he was a throw in to make the money work in some deal.

Is there not an assumed salary? I'm just guessing, but I'd think he'd get traded with a league minimum salary, but still not much.

DLeaguers demanding trades.
To be fair half the board wants to call him up for the guard heavy Pelicans. I think Dleaguers get paid about $20-$40k per year and he's shown he's deserving of an NBA contract from some team. I'd be demanding a trade too.

I don't get this at all. Our back up PG play is below average, and we would get next to nothing in return.

If we did a S&T there'd be a salary involved, but we can still trade him as just a piece of paper if all we want back is a 2nd or late 1st. What contenders could use him? That'd be something for Demps to turn #42 into 26-30.

If Brian Roberts was ahead of you on the depth chart, you'd be demanding a trade too.
He's probably got nekked pics of PJ's mom, sister, and GF already.

2nd rounders are not considered guaranteed money until their contract is signed.
A 1st rounder is considered guaranteed money based upon the slot they were drafted in.

the question is: is Dealin' Dell back? or does he not care so the "reps" are doing all the leg work?
Posted on 1/6/14 at 4:38 pm to eyeran
Jackson is not the answer to any bench pg question for this team. He's a ball stopping gunner- potentially a very useful player but not on a team with Holiday, Evans, Anderson, Gordon, Davis.
But I'm not sure why they haven't packaged Roberts for something. Playoff team needing a bench guard could do worse- OKC still plays Derek Fisher's corpse

I think the reps are doing the legwork because he's got bigger fish to fry.
If they can line up 2-3 teams interested in Jackson, Dell will then figure out what he can get in exchange for him, be it a future 2nd or a $2-3m contributing player by packaging Jackson with someone like Morrow or Stiemsma.

I don't know what to expect as we approach the deadline. I wouldn't be surprised with no moves at all, but I also wouldn't be surprised to see 3 or more players moved if the right deal came along.

I've read (I think on Bird Writes) that Dell's thinking is that if they activate him next season, that's when his contract begins and you get an extra 30+ games from him compared to doing it now.

Depends what they can get.
In OKC's case, they have their own 1st and a top 20 protected Mavs pick but no 2nd this year. They aren't trading a 1st, even a late one, for Roberts.

Plus with the way Monty seems to trust Roberts, playing him over Rivers, they probably aren't looking to trade him, unfotunately

It really depends on how you value your assets.
A contributing player who can put maybe 15-20 minutes in for you at the league minimum should be worth a 2nd to you, but probably not much more. The number of 2nds who actually make it to the league is pretty damn small, let alone the ones who turn out to be any good.
