Should hosting a home playoff game be based on record?

In my opinion the hosts of the playoff game should be based on record, with the tiebreaker going to division winner if need be

I think winning your division should guarantee you a playoff spot but not so far as a home game.

San Fran, NOLA, and KC should have been hosts this weekend

Yes, best record should host. If there is a tie, then the first tie breaker should be division champ.

This. If the home playoff games were determined by record, whats the point of divisions?

Nope, win your division, makes it interesting, more dicey and gambly and not "known." This season truly show that every games counts.

why? That diminishes the value of winning your division. Divisions like the NFC East with large, national fanbases take pride in winning the division.

Because they beat up on a very weak schedule I guess

If all schedules were made equal than sure. But its not so this system does best at evening it out and has a total of one time where it was fricked up

Division winner still gets a guaranteed playoff spot?

no. win your division has to mean something or else do away with divisions, do away with inter league play and have every team in each conf play every other team so its equal.

No.
But there is an inequity, and one way to minimize it is to cut the number of divisions in half. The downside of that is that it would mess with the schedule and NFL scheduling is close to perfect.
Baseball's worse re divisions. You could have the second to best record in the league and have a one game playoff for your life.

Absolutely yes!! Winning your division is still very important, it gets you to the playoffs and chance to win it all, but it shouldnt be used for seeding. If you play in the worst division in the NFL and you go 8-8, no way you should host a 10-6 team that plays in the toughest divsion in the NFL.

divisons are stupid. you could lose every game in your "division" and still win the division with a crap record and then a team with an undefeated division record could have a better record but not win the division and still have to travel.

This is such a silly argument.

Winning your division will still guarantee a playoff spot and it would also still guarantee you home field over any other team(s) in your division who make the playoffs.

I really don't see it as lessening any incentives at all, to simply ensure a 12-4 team does not have to play a road playoff game against one who went 8-7-1, or freaking 7-9.

Win your division

Or sack up, Like SF, SD, and New Orleans did.

People need to stop crying about records, if you cannot beat a 8-7-1 team on the road, you shouldn't be in the playoffs.

Or maybe if you can't come up with a better record in a shittier division, you shouldn't be hosting a playoff game?

Thats such a terrible argument. Why don't you make the team with the best record play the 6th seed on the road and tell them that "if they can't beat a 6th seed on the road, then they don't deserve to be in the playoffs"

Its a reward. Its not like in baseball where teams didn't care if they won their division because homefield over a 7 game series just isn't that big a deal. Seeding by record would do nothing to prevent teams from trying to win their division.
