The Bird Writes on Ryan Anderson

I just did a quick twitter search but couldn't find any good updates since yesterday. They last tweet I saw was from Jen Hale yesterday saying that he was still in Boston and that team doctors had actually gone up there from NOLA to treat him.
Hopefully he's still just a little numb/sore and he can be back within a week or two, but like they said, I really don't even want to think about it being more serious than that.

Currently, there is a rumor floating around in a forum of Pelicans Report that Anderson may be suffering from a herniated disc and his recovery time could be measured in months. It is true that occasionally stingers can result from a disc herniation in the neck, but for now, let's avoid going down this unsubstantiated path.
Basically, if Anderson is suffering from a Grade 1 or 2 stinger, his time away from game participation will be dictated by several factors: the length of time his symptoms persist and the amount of rehabilitation he'll require to regain full range of pain-free motion. In addition, stingers have high recurrence rates so expect the medical staff to favor a longer timetable.
In one collegiate football study, players sustaining stingers missed an average of 10.7 practice days. If Anderson's stinger was strictly the result of the Gerald Wallace collision, then the Pelicans will hopefully be looking at a similar time frame. Otherwise...no...let's not even contemplate otherwise.

Update: I got more information and he said they think it's a Herniated Disc; His estimated time frame for recovery was 1-3 months.
I'm sure doctors have to do more evaluations, but I guess this is what they think so far.
This is from the guy on Pelicans Report

Is it the same guys who said Williams would be on the hot seat after a couple of games into the season and that Demps was trying to trade trash for DeRozen? Nothing he's said has came to fruition, if this turns out to be false, no one should ever quote him again. I'm not buying it. But we'll see.

Yeah. Those were his earlier predictions. He even says later in the thread he hopes it's just a stinger. If his source that works with Demps is so solid, why would he have any doubt?

All I know is that the longer we go without getting good news the worse I feel about it

Benson's teams are notoriously hush regarding player injuries. shite, when AD came back from that broken hand they hadn't released anything until just before tip off.

Even still, Anderson is still in Boston. That's bad news

Seriously? Still no news on Ryno? Hopefully he's released from Boston hospital to make the Miami trip.

Brain Roberts posted a picture on instagram today of the team talking to him via skype, so he's definitely not with the team now, and I haven't seen anything about him being released

Been looking for updates all day. Nothing from the team. Which is why I find it weird that the team has seemed to be having an awesome time in Indy while they've been snowed in. Snow ball fights and shite.
WWL said tonight that the team "hoped" to give an update in the morning.
SUCKS for Anderson. Feel awful for him and his family.
Sucks for this team as well. We haven't been able to field a "healthy" team(even by NBA standards) in 5 years.
And the injuries literally started in the first preseason game this year. Just sucks all the way around...

We really need him badly in this stretch of the year. We've got several "winnable" games coming up.

If I had to guess, they did not know the full extent of the problem then, and they still do not know now, or at least are being cautious. If the stinger's effects lasted longer than a few hours, that fits the data.
Also, the guy saying they think he may have a disc issue may just be him being colloquial rather than him expressing some certainty about what they have determined as likely.
Plus, things change.
You can miss the remainder of a game due to a stinger, a week, or it can hide other damage. It is just uncertain early on, unlike, say, a nice clean break.

I'm certainly open to the possibility that his source was vague, "they're worried it COULD be a herniated disc which would mean 1-3 months", and he felt the need to pass on this information to us even though it was uncertain. But Anderson missing the window for making a run at the playoffs is a depressing thought, so I'll choose to focus on this guys lack of proven inside info

I would not take anything not widely reported as anything but something to consider. I would take some widely reportrd things the same way.

This is presumably from last night. I don't take it as a good sign that it looks like he's still lying in a hospital bed.

Team Trainer John Ishop is on today's Black and Blue around the 27 minute mark LINK
After reconfirming the diagnosis of stinger, no mention of a herniated disc, he said this:
Not really an update on his condition, but he didn't seem too concerned.

Ryan is doing well, he's still in Boston under observation. But he's doing well, he's talking to friends and family. The last time I spoke with him he was having pizza and kind of back to his old self.

My parents know his parents. His mother texted mine discussing a herniated disc and that he's still in hospital as try figure out how to safely travel with that condition. If his parents are discussing it, I suspect there is a strong likelihood that's what it is.
I don't know for certain. Will keep posted if story changes.
