Along with pigs destroying our place we also have beavers knocking down some big trees so we are going after them. Step one was to blow the dam. We bought one big jug and 8 smaller cans of tannerite.

This following pic, we had already shot the big tannerite jug. You can see the big hole in the front of the dam but it didn't completely blow the dam. So we mixed the seven smaller ones and placed it in the dam and shot it.

This is the dam after being blown up with tannerite. The jug of tannerite was shot with a 6mmx300WSM.

Beaver dam being blow up.

seems like a bit of excess money and effort for something a shovel and 2 minutes of work could have accomplished. of course, if the plan was to blow it up w/rifle and wait for the beavers to come repair then shoot them, well done, but i don't see any dead beavers.

Me and you are WAYY different. Why would I want to use a shovel when I could blow that shite up? Yeah I spent a few bucks, but I enjoyed it.

Well that wasn't the plan. The plan was to blow up the dam and get the water off the property, where the beavers wouldn't have such easy access to the trees that I wont to keep. Blowing the dam is only a small part. Once their roaming area is is made much smaller it is a lot easier to trap/shoot them. Right now that dam had water backed up for about two miles. They have been killing trees all along that area. Once the water is gone they will only have access around a much smaller pool.

They usually build the dams back pretty quickly. The best way to deal with them is to trap them. You probably have more than you think. The Forestry people caught seven in a small creek on our property.

If you haven't trapped the beaver they'll have that shite patched in 24hrs.

Put a long pipe in the dam. The beavers will just keep building the dam higher and higher but will never figure out that the pipe is how the water keeps running.

Yep and I will blow it again, but every time that dam is opened up and water is running through it, it is making that area they can access a lot smaller. We will be shooting and trapping, but when I can make that area that I have to trap smaller and smaller, then my success rate will grow.

I bought a big container at Simmons Sporting Goods. I bought all the small ones at a local gas station in Oak Grove. So I would think any sporting goods store, academy maybe?, and some backwood redneck gas stations.

The big one at Simmons cost 25$ and had to be shot by 223 or bigger. It said it was one of the biggest exploding targets you can buy, but I think you can buy Tannerite in bulk bags of 50pds. Way bigger than what I shot. The smaller cans with the gray label cost 5$ can be shot by 22. The black label was 10$ and has to be shot with a bigger rifle.

I had a buddy call and he went and picked up some more from Simmons and we are headed to blow up some more beaver dams this afternoon. I will try to remember to take a pic of the big one and post it here when I get back.
