My dog attacked a smaller dog & hurt it

I have a wired haired pointer, he's always been a mild mannered dog & isn't vicious at all.
Anyway at the beach today he was playing with this mini daschsund and all of a sudden was flinging it around in his mouth. The 15 yr old Daschsund is fighting for its life. I'm not sure what got in my dog. He lives regularly with 2 other smaller dogs, and has never had an enemy.
The owner wants my dog put down or else he will call the cops. This happened in FL. Of course I'm not putting my dog down without a fight. Does he have a case to have my dog put down? It's a damn family dog, a wired haired pointer. Not a fricking pitbull. I'm losing my damn mind here, any advice would help

That's basically what will happen, I'm just wondering if he has the legal right to eventually have my dog euthanized

Tell them you went and put your dog down, just lie about it and seem upset, and in the future keep your dog away from others.

I'd feel the same way if I was the other owner as well. Sorry to hear that, but it doesn't sound good for your dog.

Pay their vet bill and tell them its just a dog. Not like their kid got mauled or anything.

Just a back story, his wife & my mom are friends. Their other dogs have played together every January for the past 5 years. They were fine with both dogs playing in their yard off a leash.
The wife knows my dog is a good dog. It's not like he jumped a fence and attacked their dog
