We have clover, wheat, rape, rye, alfalfa, and buck oats. We have a guy who mixes them for us for less than we would pay getting them from Cabelas. What could we add? We have nice plots but I would like to have them be thicker

Rice bran seems to be popular on this board.

We have a guy down the road who gets it cheap from the mill. He does our plots for us. Cost of seed/fertilizer plus $20 an hour labor. We sat down and figured it out, it's actually cheaper for us to pay him to do it than drive up and do it ourselves. We save money, he makes money, and we have eyes on our place more often. Win win win

What I mean is instead of paying for a 50 lb bag of mix, he buys x number of pounds of each because it is cheaper and he mixes it himself somehow.

Neighbor swears by turnips. He killed a 162" three weeks ago in them, so might be something to it. I dunno..

In my experience they destroy turnips, but once they hit them it's over

We do, a lot.

I just don't know if we're not planting enough, not planting the right things, or of the deer are hitting them that hard. Next season I will put some excluders in the plots to see how hard the deer are hitting them

Turnips. The great thing about them is they get sweet after the first freeze. Just about the time all the native browse dies its just getting right. Of course a big pretty food plot is worthless if your soil sucks. The plants will look great but be bitter to the deer

Turnips. Plus, fried turnip chips aren't bad. Soybeans have a lot of protein and can also be used in your duck hole.
