Isn't there an SEC rule that you can only take 25 players?

Tennesse has like 33 commits and Bama is at 23. What's the rule?

You can back-count. Tennessee didn't have a big class last year, with the coaching change....

You can take 25 counters per year (signing day to signing day). Guys who enroll early can be counted toward the current class or they can count towards last year's signing class if and only if there is room on the 85 and there are available spots in the 25 from last year's class.

A lot of teams will run up against the 85 when trying to sign more. That's why you have to process.

That's 25 for this year. They can early enroll a few and start in January, if someone has quit or transferred, creating an opening from last year they can fill. Some can get a scholly from baseball or track,, or go greyshirt if a parent pays tuition the first year, which would not count on 2013 25. That's what they did for my son, they gave Big Ben the center scholly and asked me to pay the first year in '98. I was going to,but,my son totally surprised me and took a Ms. school full scholly.

That's possible in the 85, but not in the 25.

If you are on a track or baseball scholarship you are not eligible to play football. If you play football and have a scholarship, it must be for football.

Naw dawg. I mean, I guess they can, but then they become strictly a baseball or track team member. If they're on scholarship and on the football team, they count against the limit.

Yes but many loop holes in this "rule" the key word here is take or sign to commits!!! You can have one hundred commits if you like??? But only 25 can sign on Average

only if they "quit" before they ever showed up on campus. For example, Brazil leaving doesn't create an opening in last years class for an early enrollee. It does help, as does any attrition, in regards to the 85 player limit though.

greyshirt is more or less a handshake agreement that the team will save a scholarship for said player in the next recruiting class.

if a player is on any type of scholarship, even academic, it counts as a football scholarship if he gets any playing time at all. Can't walk on and be on any type of scholarship if you get in for even one play.

I was thinking Brazil on my comments, sorry. It's been 12 years or so since my son was being recruited and was offered a grayshirt. Rules have changed a little.

well to be fair, I'm not the end all be all when it comes to this matter, that's just my interpretation of the rules from what I gleaned from the internet. Take what I said with a grain of salt.

there are always "clearing house" casualties as well. remember when we all thought this guy would be one of the best tigers ever?

I think Jerrell Powe was a 20 star athlete (AU, LSU, OM twice) before ever seeing the playing field.
