What were your favorite games of the year? Doesn't matter if it was released this year or 10 years ago. What did you enjoy the most? What stuck out for you? Here's a chance to discuss titles that probably won't win the Gameboard awards.

-Spelunky HD: A fun, challenging, platformer with nearly endless replayability.

- Civilization V: Brave New World: I haven't played nearly enough of this but with the addition of Brave New World, it's the most fun I've had with a Civ game in a long time.

- Hotline Miami: I didn't much care for this game at first. It was ultra violent, twitchy, and brutally difficult. However, I eventually got into a rhythm with the game and couldn't stop playing it. It also has one of the best game soundtracks I've ever heard. LINK

- Super Mario 3D Land: I just got a 3DS XL a few weeks ago and I finally got to play this after wanting to for over 2 years. It's just an all around great Mario game with brilliant level design and 3D effects that actually add to the experience. And the best part is when you think you've beaten the game, it reveals itself to be twice as long as you may have thought it was.

- Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons: As some have said, this is like 2013's Journey. You control 2 different brothers with slightly different abilities simultaneously, each assigned to an analog stick, to solve puzzles. It also might be the first game I've ever played that uses it's control scheme to communicate something significant in its story.

I don't really have one. Pretty underwhelming year.

I guess the Battlefield 3 Aftermath and End Game DLC's.

I think I'm going to get this one. Looks right up my alley

I haven't finished a ton of games this year (I rarely do) but of the ones I've played, here's my list:

Dark Souls - still need to finish the DLC but this is withotu doubt the most addictive game I've ever played

Deus Ex - Had zero interest in this game but it turned out to be great

Skyrim - because awesome

Limbo - I've gotten really in to puzzle platformers the last few months and I really enjoyed this one

The Cave - see Limbo, except it has a dark sense of humor as opposed to being just dark

State of Decay - open world zombie survival game I'd been looking for

Portal 2 - LOVE Portal and this game is what actually got me back in to the previously mentioned puzzle platformers. Even tho Portal isn't a platformer, it led me to search for other puzzle games

The Walking Dead - great interactive story. Might get part 2 this weekend

Oh look, it's BM right on time to follow up my posts

Stalker

If you'd read at all, you'd see these are games I've already played. Not games I plan to play and never will

have you played the new DLC? They added sandbox mode and you unlock "heroes" that have special abilities.

I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't associate my name with your daily 9:30 destruction of the 3rd floor bathroom.

I have not, yet. I did read the description on it. I haven't finished the main story yet actually. Been meaning to get back to it. I'm at the end, but I hate to just finish it and skip so many side missions

Spelunky HD
If you get it just go in knowing you are going to die a lot until you get used to the controls. But, I see you like Dark Souls so this probably won't be a problem for you.

Deus Ex
I played some of this on 360 and then realized I wanted to play it on PC. I still need to get to it. The original is one of my all time favorites.
quote:

Limbo & Portal 2
If like both of these you should check out Braid. Another one of those games that makes you feel like a genius when you solve one of its puzzles.
quote:

State of Decay
I need to play this.

Great topic! This really applies for guys like us that may be behind and played a lot of games that we missed.

GTA San Andreas - I started this in December of last year after picking it up during a steam sale and finished it sometime in January. Vice city was the last GTA I had played so there was a big gap but this game was a lot of fun. Even today I was very impressed with it.

AC Brotherhood - AC2 was one of my favorite games ever that brought me back into gaming over a year ago. I got the flu and played this game my entire week off and loved it, this was a great sequel to AC2 and the 2nd best of the series excluding AC4 which I have not finished yet.

Max Payne 1&2 - Another steam sale pick up that was fun to play. I thought it told a good story and created a good atmosphere.

Batman series - I played all of them this year. Asylum was good, City blew me away.

God of War - I beat this just the other day and am upset I missed it the first time. I loved the puzzles and sometimes I wanted to throw my controller it was so hard. They did a good job of story telling that felt like a classic myth and story to me.

I actually played the trial for Braid. I liked it.

Puzzle Platformers I want:

-Braid
-Quantum Conundrum
-The Bridge

:inb4b1rdman:

Deus Ex didn't appeal to me but Carson suggested it so I figured for $10 it was worth a shot. Great game. Story is cool, multiple endings available, and I like combat system and skills tree they offer. I like being able to go in guns blazing or play stealth and I think Deus Ex pulls it off pretty well

I just picked up Spelunky the other day and that game is hard as shite. It reminds me of how games used to be and how I became addicted to games in general. Good stuff.

Raises hand....

I'm always behind on games, as you can see from my list. I usually wait on single player games until some user reviews come and I come on here to get suggestions. Plus, doesn't hurt that they drop in price too. I paid a combined $40 for Skyrim, Dark Souls, and Deus Ex and those three will last me for years

Bioshock Infinite My favorite game this year by a long shot. I have yet to download to Burial at Sea DLC, but will be doing so at some point in between Christmas and New Years

GTA V The story mode was awesome, but I had really high hopes for the online mode.

Super Smash Bros Brawl Many battles were forged in my apartment vs the roommates.

Banjo Kazooie
Replayed it during the spring and it was just as awesome as the first time I played through it on the N64

The Last of Us - Maybe my favorite game ever. I played through 3 times and it never gets old even though it feels like it should.

Max Payne 3 - Soooo underrated. I bought this just because it was on sale. Ended up being one of my favorites in a long time. Love Max's character.

Skyrim - I need to revisit this one because I timed it poorly by buying it a month before GTA came out. I put countless hours into Oblivion and I haven't done Skyrim justice. It's obviously awesome though.

GTA V - Nothing needs to be said that hasn't already been said.

The Walking Dead (Tell Tale not the FPS) - Couldn't put it down. Can't wait to have time for Season 2.

Far Cry 3 - I liked this game A LOT. I know a good number of you guys don't care for it but something about it just grabbed me and I couldn't stop. Nothing makes you feel more badass than hitting a moving target from 50 yards with a bow.

Dishonored - One of the most unique games I've played in awhile. I kept ignoring this game because I didn't see how a first person/stealth/ game could even work but I'm glad I finally gave it a shot.

Uncharted 1 & 2 - Just one of those series I never got around to until this year for whatever reason.

Tomb Raider - Kind of like Far Cry, I liked this game more than most GB members. It was beautiful and again, killing stuff with a bow is GOAT.

State of Decay - The zombie game I waited for my entire gaming life. Amazing considering it's an indie xbl arcade game. If they ever get a budget, Zombie Labs are going to make sick games.
