Was the Gamecube the best console of its generation?

Now that I think back on it, The Gamecube arguably had the best games of that generation.
Gamecube had Luigi's mansion, Zelda, Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Pik Min, Metroid, and Wii Sports.
Damn. In hindsight I'd say the GameCube won.

You forgot to put Star Wars: Rogue Squadron II and Starfox Adventures.
But, yes, the Gamecube was awesome.

I will say that there were some Gamecube games that were better than anything on the Xbox or Playstation 2.
There is no game in the Xbox or Playstation 2 library that is better than Metroid Prime.

I'm a huge Nintendo fan and I think this thread is dumb. The GCN was great and severely underrated, but the PS2 crushed that generation in a landslide.

It was a close second. I think the PS2 had it beaten but the Gamecube for sure beat the Xbox

The GC had more of the "best" games of the generation, but the breadth of the PS2 is just tough to beat. Probably a push for me.

I hated mine. Bought it with Luigi's Mansion, hated the game and pretty much never even looked at the console again.

PS2 had around 3 or 4x the games. Gamecube had a very excellent games, but there really isn't an comparison to how dominant the PS2 was.

It was certainly my favorite console of that generation. Metroid Prime is probably in my top 5 of my favorite games of all time.
