They make the rounds in popularity every few years.

The breif experience I had with one was not great. It would do land or water, but gumbo mud just made a slick suction and immobilized it.

Prepare anus for the repairs. Hope you are a part time mechanic for the minor fixes.

They do go through some shite though and you can frick up entry into a duck hole to where no wheeler or UTV can dare go into it other than an Argo so there is that.

this is a lot funner than floating.(not my pic)

I regularly go in water 5-5.5ft deep and I can go places thet argo cant, such as thick or deep mud.

A couple of well placed boat bumpers and my sportsman floats.

That said,I would like to own one of the new hydrolic drive argos. piss on a bunch of chains, sprockets, bearings and gears on something that stays in mud and water

That might be a lot MORE FUN when it's hot outside and that's your goal but when it's freezing and you're going hunting, that's not fun anymore. Argos have their purposes. My friend has one because where we hunt, when the water rises the road washes out. Only way to get across is bring a pirogue on a 4 wheeler which would suck because the wash out is about 3/4 of a mile back or take the Argo.

The Argo is significantly outperformed by side-by-sides at the duck lease. They are slow. They also float really easily which makes them even slower. If you need to pull anything, they are pretty much useless.
Last but not least, all those wheels mean nothing if you high center it which can happen pretty easily. They are wide and have low ground clearance. Ive seen argos get high centered on a turn-row rut (made by a side by side). They are also extremely heavy; so, If high centered, it takes an armada of vehicles to dislodge.

Thats just my experience.

The marsh lease I was on, the Argo was pretty much the go to for several blinds but I would take a jacked up ATV with a set of Vampires and a snorkel any day for all other applications.

We have an Argo 8-wheeler that is about 10 years old.

Not sure about everyone elses dealings with the speed but mine hauls arse...........when it works.

It has the most sensitive carbeurated engine ever. I have had start up and fuel delivery problems for the past few years. Not even worth driving because I get stranded. 600 acre walk in chest waders was no fun last year.

Lastly, Center-of-gravity and drivetrain. The Argo is a tank, it will also get high centered on a crop row. The tires get slick very easily, and as stated before, the chain/break-turn system is just asking to rape your wallet.

TL;DR - Just buy a side x side

I know somebody who had one. It was a rolling hunk of shite. Almost never got more than a day or two out of it without something breaking.

And break down A LOT. My grandpa had one and good thing he and my uncle are machinist and mechanics cause that damn thing kept them busy. After about 5 years and replacing about every part with their own, it was half arse reliable.

I think the one we had was a Maxx it was a six wheeler with chain drive. It would go anywhere and probably some places you shouldn't be lol. Only thing was that it was slow swimming and had some trouble climbing into the marsh from a swimming condition. It worked great for making shooting lanes in the marsh.

Prepare to develop a good relationship with your mechanic of choice.

That's what some guys had on my old marsh lease. Most everyone else ran jacked up Rangers or ATV's. The Argo's were a major pain in the arse for their owners and the only upside was when we got a huge rain where our blinds got to the point where only an Argo or a boat could get to them. I had a 10' jon on a jet ski trailer so I was good. However, if you ever fell off into an Argo rut on your wheeler, you were also fricked....
