looking for a 50mm scope in the $200 range. are the redfield revolutions good? I have never looked through one. Normally use the nikon prostaff and leupold vx1/riflemans when getting a cheaper scope. How do they compare to those two?

Nope

look through a Vx3 at almost dark and a redfield and you tell me.

What are you going to be hunting with this?

I have one on my AR and it's a good scope.
That said, it's still not a Leupold. There's a reason for the price disparity.
The lens is clear but a bit fuzzy around the outer edges. It's still built tough as nails though. The main place you'll find differences are in the optics.
EDIT: But for a budget optic it's one of the best. Redfield Rev, Leupold Rifleman, and Nikon Prostaff are usually recommended the most.

will be hunting deer "when i take it" its not a primary rifle just another one to use from time to time. Im not set on the redfield just asking how it compared to the prostaff and rifleman scopes in its price range

I would say the Redfield compares very favorably to the Prostaff. I don't have any experience with a VX 1 or Rifleman. I do own a Redfield and Pro Staff.
ETA - When I bought my 17 WSM I asked for a Redfield but the ProStaff was $30 cheaper so I bought it.

Waiting on X-mas, and I'll report back how my Mueller is.

Hopefully my woman has ordered me this already APT 4.5-14x40
I am wanting to mount it on my 22 for longer range, and if I like it, get another one for my next long rifle

Carlos Hathcock was not fan of the Redfield:

but Carlos wasn't a fan of the issue Redfield 3-9X scopes, noting, "Heck, we had more scopes in the shop than in the field, at times. Guys were ranging back and forth with 'em, and the power adjustment would go out. I wound up telling my guys to just leave 'em on 9X. They had a rangefinder, but it would only go up to 500 yards. I kept my scopes zeroed at 700 yards!"

Don't take my word for it, but I know a few years ago the Redfields were made by Leupold. The Redfield scope that I bought has the same guts as the VX-1. If I remember correctly, the VX-1 was phased out and Leupold just pushed them out the factory as Redfields.
I bought that story at the store after I walked outside with the scope and compared it to several other scopes. For the money I spent, it was a great deal. Put it on a 35 Whelen.

Correct, and they still are produced by Leupold.

I have a Redfield 3x9x42 on my 26-06. It has been good so far this year. Watch their website, some times they have rebate offers.

I've got 2 Mueller's, one on a 17 Mach 2 and the other on a 17 HMR. I really like both. OTOH, I'm waiting to see the collective experience of these scopes on the larger centerfire rifles like 270. 308, 30-06, etc.
Hammertime, I have the exact same scope on my 17 M2 that you've ordered. You're prob already aware, but the adjustment knobs are external w/o a cap covering them.

eta: I'd trust their advice far more than the knuckleheads that post on TD.
