How bad of a gamble would Kliff Kingsbury be for UT?

Hire this kid for the long term future of their university, they could have a youthful stud coach for the next 35 years.

Ask Missouri about Quin Snyder hire for BB. I would not hire him for a job that big - yet.

It'd be a lot like Rich Rodriguez at Michigan. Square peg in a round hole.

It would be a terrible hire. I'm not even sold on him as the Texas Tech head coach. Texas Tech completely collapsed after that great start to the season.

It would be an awful hire. He would fail, guaranteed.

If they were going to go with a young coach, James Franklin is only seven years older than Kingsbury and is a more proven commodity.

As head coach, it would be pretty stupid. I would love him as my offensive coordinator, but he's not taking steps back to do that.

1 year as a head coach and I still think that was a bit premature. I think texas and Kliff would be making a mistake, much like I think tech and Kliff both made a mistake.

Edit: And Kliff is a tech guy through and through. I think he probably hates texas.

Texas should hire Kliff and have him live in the Real World house in downtown Austin.

Hidden cameras and confessionals FTW.

"Real World: Kliff Kingsbury" sounds good for LHN.

KK is a Tech guy through and through he is in his dream job where he is. The only way he'd leave is if Tech fired him and I don't see that happening for a few years at the minimum. They will give him time to build that program up.

Then the Red Raiders will bring in Sonny Dykes

kk will definantly leave Tech once he sees that he has plateaued or a bigger program with more money takes a chance on him.

Not happening. Texas actually did this before when they hired David McWilliams (aka Mack I) to replace Fred Akers. McWilliams coached Tech for 1 year and performed above expectations so Texas hired him. He was in way over his head and lasted just a few years before they hired Mackovic (Mack II).

I do think Kliff would take the job because Texas could double his salary and though he is a Tech guy he also knows he is limited there. He's also from New Braunfels which is just South of Austin and in truth Kliff is not what you would call a Lubbock kind of guy

This.

If they want youth, Franklin should be their guy. He at least has a track record, and his comes at a tough place to win.

McWilliams isn't really comparable. He was the captain on one of their MNC in the 60s and was an assistant and bag man under both Royal and then Akers for like 20 years, the last 5 or so of which he was their DC. He left for 1 year and then they fired Akers. It wasn't like he was unconnected and had 1 year HC experience.

I'm not sure about guaranteed but so far he's shown a complete inability to recruit whatsoever. He didn't even recruit for us when he was OC and his staff is a bunch of his teammates from his playing days and most aren't recruiters.

He's a brilliant offensive mind but he needs a helluva lot more seasoning. I think he'll be successful long term but it's going to be more a slow build as he learns the ropes of being a college coach. But yeah, he'd get run out on a rail at UTx because they wouldn't have the patience Tech will.

I'm sort of surprised by this. You'd figure a guy who's in his early 30s would be a pretty decent recruiter.
