Thanks 6 yr olds first gun. Just got permission to hunt a private farm that's loaded with birds. He just gonna point and shoot. Lots of "we" killing fixin to happen.

I've found some federal target steel, #6 at bowies

I'm pretty sure federal makes the only steel shot for 410

It was about 15 bucks a box but you probably won't shoot all that much anyway

That gun is probably real light, and any steel shot is going to probably kick real hard. Just make sure he is ready for the gun and don't make him hate shooting it if he is not ready...

Hmmm. I've never seen .410 steel shot.

Not intending to get into your business, but you may want to have some sort of alternative shooting activity on stand-by to keep things fun....a .410 can give a decent wallop for a 6 yr old if he's on the smaller side.

A six year old in a duck blind? You better make sure he doesn't blow your head off. I know grown men who don't understand how to handle a gun in a blind, I would be worried about a six year old.

I appreciate the concern he and I in a two man blind will be fine. Safety first is my motto.

I looked and called around Baton Rouge earlier this year and couldn't find it. Ended up swinging by Simmons in Bastrop and bought 6 boxes of #5 Winchester super steel. Was $17/box.

If you are in monroe, TP has them. Expensive as hell...and kicks pretty good.

Please sit behind your son and don't get your head blown off.

My son has been in the duck blind since he was three, it's all in how you teach them. He's 5 now and deer hunts with a .223. rabbit and squirel hunt with a Cricket .22LR and my old savage bolt action .410. He's safer with a gun than most men....

Good luck with your boy, I'm sure he'll have a blast!!!
