Looking for a financial planner in NOLA

Who's the best? Preferably uptown but don't mind driving to Metairie if they are that good at what they do.
I've got some cash I need to invest but I also have a car debt and 2 rent houses. I could possibly pay one off as well as the car but I don't know if it's best to hold that debt and invest elsewhere with better returns.
Who can I call? Also how are financial planners paid?

My guy from Raymond James has been handling my 401K for the past few years and I'm seeing YTD returns over 25%. He's extremely knowledgeable with every aspect of investing. Office is in Covington, but could probably do everything for you over the phone. Really smart and nice guy.

Who would I go to that is a "financial planner" that isn't one of these retirement/investing guys that I don't need? I'm fine doing my own retirement stuff, but I have some questions about the best course of action regarding my student loans that are in IBR repayment.
I'd like to talk to someone about the implications of waiting for forgiveness and paying the tax at the end vs. trying to pay them off before then, best assumptions we can make on future income, present value of money calculations, etc.
I've done some calculations, but its pretty tough to come up with good assumptions, figuring out the IBR formula, and so on. I'd rather have numbers I can trust better.
Who would I go to for that? An accountant?

I know he's an accountant but I doubt that's his professional name.

I have a 10+ year (professional) relationship with a FP at Morgan Stanley/Smith Barney. They have an office in the Energy building downtown.
I've feel they provide, good well-rounded advice and are easiliy accessible.

Your return YTD is down with the worst index fund, probably less when you consider his fees, fire the dude and do it yourself.

Didn't state my specific YTD return, all i said was that its over 25%. If you really want to get down to the nuts and bolts, YTD is 34% and 3 Year is at 46.2%, which looks to be about 2 to 3 times better than the 3 year return on your index performance chart

15.21*3 = $
3-yr in the chart for total market is annualized, not cumulative.

Coming from a financial professional.... Jason Appe is the best I've ever met. He is with JP Morgan Chase private client services and is based out of Mandeville. My wife has strict instructions that if anything ever happens to me...Jason knows what to do. My parents use him also. Again, bear in mind I'm a financial professional which makes me a very harsh critic of the profession. Based on all the most important factors....intelligence, practical application, customer service centric, great listener and planner, and above all integrity....Jason is the best in the area. Period, end of story.

The best in the city probably isn't taking new clients or only taking on new clients with million plus dollar portfolios. I would recommend someone on the younger side that you could build a long term relationship with.

I use him as well, and like his approach. I have one investment property, and would like to add a few more. He works with what you are comfortable with. His suggestions and plans touch all financial subjects from, suggested insurance coverage, asset allocation, retirement and tax planning, and cash flow management. I don't want to dedicate the time to research and figure out the best course of action, and thats where he comes in and why he works for us.

Don't go to a broker. Use an Registered investment advisor (RIA). They have to meet a fiduciary standard and brokers don't. Brokers charge commissions. RIAs work hourly or as a percent of assets managed.
