You are not going to find that much variation with the big name mass production 1911's in that price range. I'm not a big fan of external extractors on 1911's but they work. If you have someone than can get you a deal on one then there really isn't a good reason not to get one and shoot the hell out it.

Scorpion

I have been thinking about ordering a Sig 1911. They several different styles but I like the Scorpion.

I am a fan of the sand/desert finish on it. Have never fired one though.

I have known several people who got FFL's. All only had it for a year. Take that for what it worth.

SIG makes pretty good pistols. If you are not a fan of the external extractor you may want to stay away from it, as most 1911 lovers do.

ETA: I recently used Barking Irons, on Airline, for a transfer and I can say they are great. I don't mind spending a few extra dollars to help a local small business like them.

I am really considering buying myself one for Christmas. Is the 1911 as big of a pain as everyone makes it out to be when it comes to maintenance and cleaning? Really wanting a .45 caliber pistol and am considering 1911 and some other models.

No, its easy to breakdown. Unless of course you get some horrible creation with a crazy guide rod. Stick to plunger and spring, just like Moses intended.

Your first 45 should be a 1911.
