Just asking an honest question to discuss the recruiting impacts.

What do you think about:
1) How many recruits follow him to Texas (committed for him).
2) How many recruits stay at Bama (committed for the school).
3) How many look towards another school (recruit made tough decision for Bama over another school, but was swayed to Bama by both #1 & #2).

*LSU wise - I think both #1 & #3 help our SEC-West chances. Both work to either weaken Bama or strengthen LSU (if players like CRob flip to LSU).

It already looks to be a fantastic recruiting class for us. I just wasn't following recruiting that closely in 2005 when he left to know how it affected our class.

He'll still cherry pick as he does now, but I would expect the potential move to absolutely crush a&m efforts.

Saban will try to cut off our Texas base and continue to snipe a few traitors from Louisiana. I don't think it really makes much difference becasue we will strenthen our status in Florida, Georgia and Alabama. I think a resurgent Auburn is more of a concern than little Nicky in Austin. He will hurt Baylor, TCU and OU much worse than he hurts us.

Not sure about the immediate impact; I'd imagine CRob and Hootie would likely stay at Bama. I've gotten the impression they really bought into the program and not just Saban. Going forward, Saban would probably solidify North Louisiana as a pretty fertile ground for cherry picking for UT. Shreveport has always been place that Texas has found solid players.

With that said, I still don't see Saban going to Texas.

I forgot about A&M. He will absolutely crush their program which helps us win the West. Geaux Noles!

? Do you see bridges burned with coaches in Texas if saban process kids who are already committed to UT to get his recruits from bama to follow him.

I don't think as much as bama to be honest. LSU would still battle him for top LA and Texas talent but he has a lot more in state talent to fill out the rest of the class unlike at Bama, which I think would decrease his "poaching" efforts. It would also strengthen our Georgia/Florida recruiting imho.

Saban will not need to recruit anyone outside of Texas

If Saban takes the Texas job he will not need to come into Louisiana nearly as much. We would still be dealing with Alabama only to see them become less if a factor. There are way too many athletes in Texas and I doubt he needs to leave the state. He may come after a Fournette. OU, aTm, Baylor would get hurt.

That was pretty much my point, just may have not put it across well. I could still see him recruiting guys like Fournette which is why I didn't rule LA players out.

All this, and Texas' influence in N. LA is overblown. They've rarely gotten anyone of note in recent years. Toshiro Davis was an exception, and he hasn't done anything at UT. In addition, the Saban threat in N. LA has been identified and is being dealt with (see: Brick Haley's assignment.) And even then, Saban has struck out more often than not in LA.

This guy is not ten feet tall, folks. He wasn't at Bama, and he won't be at Texas. He's a good coach, but his reputation as some kind of wizard is largely media-created, and a lot of his success is the result of a perfect storm of good fortune. That won't last forever, whether he goes or stays. Saban's brand has peaked, and his reputation won't be the same in five years.

Saban wouldn't just abandon his LA ties to fertile recruiting just because he's in the middle of Texas. He'd keep trying to cherry-pick LA talent, just like he does now. Texas can and does recruit nationally.

Not much. Texas produces too many top flight players for one school to take them all. UT has always had a strong recruiting presence in Texas, and LSU has always done well there also. There are enough good players to go around. If anything, it will take some heat off of LSU in the other southern states.

Luckily he'll be so overwhelmed with state talent from that monstrosity of a state, he'll have little space to work our guys.

Plus now he has a two-for-one benefit on each recruit he steals from here: improve his team while weakening his strongest foe.

We don't play Texas, he'll probably go after OK recruits more. We'll be an afterthought.

A lot of posters are too stupid to understand this, apparently. Texas has too many good players for one school to get, or even five schools to get. Part of Saban's incentive in Louisiana is to hurt a division rival. At Texas, his time would be better used stealing recruits from Baylor or OU.

Ok. Glad you cleared that up for us.

This hasn't been Texas' problem in recent years. Their problem has been talent evaluation and player development.

Excellent point. However, I would add that he isn't taking sub-standard talent just to hurt LSU. He's going after the best talent, regardless of state of origin.

I'm not sure he's all that afraid of Baylor or OU, at least not to the point of denying them players.... which goes back to your earlier point of: "Texas has too many good players for one school to get, or even five schools to get."
He's going to implement his system and go after the best players to make it work.

--- I'm worried that our draw in Houston (and also East Texas) will be diminished. We were the closest SEC team for these recruits to go until aTm joined.
We have seen a higher number of players choose aTm given the SEC ties, but Saban vs Brown may tilt even more to staying in-state.
