THIS JUST IN: Texas denies report that Mack Brown will step down as Longhorns coach. Board of Regents to meet Thursday. (via @schadjoe)

@BFeldmanCBS
Mack Brown to 247: "I'm in FL recruiting. If I had decided to step down I sure wouldn't be killing myself down here." Said not stepping down

I wish we could trade the people of ShaggyBevo with the idiots on The Rant, but keep the format of TD.

Mack Brown hasn't had the best few seasons, but I feel Texas fans are really taking what he did for granted. In the 80s and 90s before Mack got there, the Texas program was in the dumps. It's because of Mack that they now expect greatness every season because he set the bar higher. It seems they have simply regressed back to the mean these last few seasons.

Just wondering.

Do you think Stoops would have survived a 5-7 season in OU? Obviously Mack did and hasn't been able to rebound as of yet.

Do you think he's being treated fairly?

Stoops just became the winningest coach in OU history. So I think he would survive one season of 5-7. Although, probably not two. Getting a BCS Bowl berth in a down year for us has boosted him a little bit when he was getting heat earlier this year. I think Stoops will be here as long as he wants to be here.

I applaud people for the sentiment but can't agree when it comes to running a football program. If Mack wanted to remain at Texas working in some function as an administrator or supporter of the athletic program then I think he's earned that respect. But a lifetime appointment to being football coach is not earned IMO. Bobby Bowden and Paterno both lessened their legacies with that expectation.
