Prologue to Phantom Pain

The game play I'll admit has me at the least intrigued. This series was one of my all time favorites but lost me around the introduction of Raiden. I haven't played it since. The 30 min unskippable cutscenes and some of the over the top writing doomed it for me.
However the footage seems to be at least back to some basic stealth gameplay and OG Snake creeping. I haven't heard much on phantom pain but at least I'm interested in this next game.
Not sure how I feel about the whole "body snatchers " story...TBD

They don't need to win me back. I'm still a fan, though I've only seriously played the main line Metal Gear Solid games, i.e., MGS 1 - 4 and Twin Snakes.

A lot of people reacted that way to Raiden and I think it was intentional, but that's a whole other topic. You should really play MGS 3, though. It's awesome and it's loaded with "basic stealth gameplay" like you seem to be looking for. Fantastic bosses too.

The cutscenes have gotten more and more ludicrous, true, but I feel like the series has always been pretty over the top story-wise. I like it for that, though. The games and their stories are just flat out weird but feel like a unique marriage of western and Japanese story telling.

I don't know much about "The Phantom Pain" other than what was shown in the first and second trailer. It's a must buy for me.

Enough to win me back?

I really enjoyed all of the games. So yes I will play this one and it will probably be a system seller for me since I still didn't buy my PS4 yet.

The whole phantom pain and metal gear V thing has me confused. So MGS is the prologue to it? I dont care enough to research so a yes or no will do.

I think "MGS V: The Phantom Pain" is a prequel since it appears you'll be playing as "Big Boss," who later becomes the principle villain of the series...sort of.

So you enjoyed about 1.2 games out of 4. Gotcha.

Is this the video with the flaming Pegasus and the giant fire penis that pops out of the ground?

I've never played MGS, but are situations like that normal in these games?

Pretty much.

I love the series, but it's head scratching about 75% of the time. I figure I'll keep playing and then find out I've been watching Roseanne the whole time.

MGS took place chronologically after. This is the timeline for the games so far:

1964 - MGS 3: Snake Eater (PS2)
1970 - MGS: Portable Ops (PSP)
1974 - Peace Walker (PS3/Vita)
1975 - Ground Zeros
1984 - The Phantom Pain
1995 - Metal Gear (NES)
1999 - Metal Gear 3 (NES)
2005 - MGS (PS1)
2007 - MGS 2: Sons of Liberty (PS2)
2014 - MGS 4 (PS3)

Rising took place in 2018 but I don't consider is a MGS game.

So you think metal gear solid was the first game in the series?

I like Metal Gear but Kojima needs to get his head out his arse. Not sitting through hours of cut scenes.

You've been doing this since day 1. You will like the cutscenes!

I might only play in hopes of hearing Jack Bauer go "TELL ME WHERE THE BOMB IS!"

One can only hope right?

I kind of assumed the OP only played starting with the MGS games also.
