I played from original metal gear on Nintendo....stopes playing around sons of liberty. Tried MGS4 (I think ) couldn't skip 30 min cutscenes even after failing mission and having already seen it. Never played again.

that is enough for someone to not like the direction they went for metal gear solid 2.
If you liked the first three games of the series enough to consider it an all time favorite, it seems rather silly to ignore the rest of the series because of one game you didn't like. Especially when two of those games you missed out on(MGS 3&4) are hailed as all time great games.

MGS 3 is unquestionably a great game. Antiheroaz, you really should play that one. And, since it's the first one chronologically, you should be able to dive right in and have some fun.
However, I don't ever recommend MGS 4 to anyone unless they've played the previous games and are a fan of the story. I really liked it but it's such an uneven game loaded with fan service that would simply be lost on a non-fan.

It silly to consider a series you grew up with an all time favorite but didn't like the jump it made with ps2? Oh And a lot of people who started out liking halo say hello
FWIW I liked the series and the story and grew up playing it. I just think it's funny someone tried to knock him for playing one game when the metal gear series didn't start with metal gear solid

No, it's silly to ignore the rest of the series after that point if you liked the other games that much.

ok? How many people who played Halo 3 didn't play Halo 4?

Well, I'm one but I've honestly never liked Halo all that much.

Me either. I just find it odd that someone would like a series that much, not like 1 game and then decide to miss out on a bunch of a great games. I guess that's normal though.

Halo 4 still sold very well, so I wouldn't think there would be a ton of disparity between the two.

I just saw they released the "Race" playlist.
I had sadz that I traded in my 360.

It happens a lot. (See NCAA,madden , resident evil,etc)
The story was so far fetched the gameplay seemed totally different than what I got hooked on. Add on top of that the cheesy voice acting and unlike able characters and I was done. I saw all the trailers for the games in between but they all seemed to be not my cup of tea. I liked MGS4 for the few times I played it but like I said if I wanted to be forces to watch a movie I at least want to be able to eat popcorn without getting my controller all buttery.

I totally understand that, though I've come to accept it as part of the series now. Personally, MGS3 hit the sweet spot as far as the gameplay to cutscene ratio. MGS4 went way overboard. I think the last cutscene of that game is like an hour and change if I'm remembering right. For an interactive medium, that's ridiculous.
Sometimes I feel like Kojima really wants to make movies but is "stuck" making video games.
My other complaint about some of the MGS games is that Snake is always way cooler in the cutscenes. He's dramatically diving behind cover, doing fancy kungfu moves against robot ninjas, dodging bullets from enemy soldiers and then I get to play him aaaaaaand I'm limited to hiding behind a wall and a quick 3 hit combo of punch, punch, kick. Now, the later games have expanded his moveset, but there's always a disparity there that sort of bothers me.

And there are plenty of people who dropped halo after 3
