So I found a mouse in my garage the other night. It hauled arse so I started investigating around of the area where I saw it and why he would be in there. I found where it dug holes in my bird feed and chewed some mesh(for a nest) I presume.
I laid out a small critter trap with collapsable doors and lo-and-behold I caught the sucker!
So this morning early I tell my little future outdoorsman sons and they get excited. I go back to bed and they come in to tell me they tried to open the cage and put it in a box
So what do you think happens?? It escapes. So my question is will it hang around my garage even though it was stuck in a cage all night, and if so are they smart enough to avoid the trap again?
I have researched the net, but have not found this specific reference and wondering if anybody has any experience.

Why was it still alive after you trapped it?
Put a few slap traps out and they'll come. Bait with peanut butter, cheese, potato chips, etc

Yes, it was alive all night in the trap. I assume they will not abandon shelter after this. I was hoping to trap it alive and feed it to a snake.

Put out a trap that will kill it.

the mouse.....not the future outdoorsmen....
There is probably more than one. Slap trap is the answer here unless you really want to try to obtain some snake food.

They aren't smart enough to move out just because they've been harassed. Instead it went right back into a familiar spot and tended to its 750 babies who will be tearing the place down in the next 10 to 20 days.

I'll get his arse again. Different bait different trap placement. That sucker was big, not your typical house mouse. About the size of my fist. My kids crapped their pants when it jumped out.

I saw a mouse in my house after we moved in. They say if you see one then there are more hiding. So I got a bunch of glue traps and set them out all over the house when we left for disneyworld. Came back a week later and there were twelve of those motherfrickers ranging in ages. Never had anymore after that. That was 2009.

As much as I hate cats, they are good at getting rid of mice

Glue traps along the walls and glue traps with peanut butter. Those mice don't get off the sticky trap...

there is a pasture across from my house. Everytime the landowner burns it or it rains alot those little bitches run to my house. It is mouse holocaust for about week around here!

My neighbors have had issues with them. I know when it gets cold they move into houses and they travel in pairs so I expect another one around.
I kind of want to trap it alive so my kids can play with it then decide to find a rapture or a snake and have Live Action.

One good alley cat in the house for 24 hours and mouse gone.
Or a rat snake.

First off..I know...CSB.
My mom and dad had a "mouse" on the back porch as seen by the evidence left behind. So mom set out a glue trap to catch it. Well one night while she was letting the dog out to use the bathroom she saw her glue trap walking across the floor...it was on edge...attached to a big ole rat. So she hollered at dad...who got his .22 and promptly dispatched the rat. I mean he had a beautiful target to shoot at! (Yes, they live out of city limits).

Louisiana passed a law a couple of years ago authorizing the use of silencers when shooting "nuisance quadrupeds." That way you don't alarm the neighbors when you are plunking rats on the back porch.
