It makes me wonder if the SEC is really that much better than other conferences. Was the East really that down?

East was pretty bad outside SC.

They did almost win the big XII a few years ago as well. Won 10+ games 3 of the 5 years before coming to the SEC.

They won the north pretty much every year towards the end (not saying too much) they just ran into OU and Texas in their prime.

Mizzou finished T-1st in their division 3 of their last 5 years in the Big12 and went to the Big12 Champ game twice.

They were successful in the Big12.

Mizzou was #1 in the country before the last game of the season in 2007 and Pinkel was the HC. It's not like that was the '40s or something, it was less than a decade ago.

And injuries to UGA/UF + USCe's crazy loss to UT = Mizzou East title

What if I told you...

Top to bottom, the SEC isn't head and shoulders above every other conference.

They were ranked number 1 in 07 for a few weeks. We needed them to lose to get to the NC game.

I would tell you that we put more teams in bowls pretty much every year and have an outstanding bowl record since the BCS started.

People also forget that the Big 12 North was the weaker division. Nebraska/K-State was down when Mizzou won. And we all know Colorado was not the team from the late 80's-early 90's.

ETA: When the power teams in the East suck, Mizzou will win, then get smashed by the traditional power in the Championship games. Mizzou could never get past OU in the Big 12 Championship games.

they played in Big 12 CG in '07 and '08, but couldn't knock off Oklahoma. And yes, East was sad this year. UT was average, UF sucked, UGA was plagued with injuries. They did lose to SC.

Are you serious?

For a 14 team conference, the SEC is easily top to bottom the best conference by far.

If you take the top 7 teams in the SEC in a given year, they are top 25 teams and possible NC contenders. Then take the bottom 7 teams and 3 of them would finish in the top half of another conference.

Missouri never seemed to really try that hard. When the move to the SEC became apparent, that was something that galvanized the program and made them kick it into gear. We'll see in time if they're able to sustain what they've achieved in this surge.

The SEC East is not really what we mean when we talk about the SEC.
