Is Michigan State a lock for the Rose bowl

yes, especially since Wisky lost this weekend. that was really the only other option

Mich St. is #10 in BCS have to stay above #14 for the bid.

They will most likely be jumped by Clemson (#13) and Oregon (#12) who are finished. ASU is #11 if they lose to Stanford, they probably won't jump Mich State, but if ASU wins Stanford won't fall out of the top 14 from 7. Northern Illinois is #14 and plays Bowling Green so I'd say a solid win keeps them ahead of Mich State but that's guess work. Then you've got LSU at #15, UCF at #16 and Oklahoma at #17. Oklahoma plays Ok. State and a win would put them ahead of a Mich. St team that loses.

Lots of moving parts but I'd think a Michigan State loss puts them most likely out of the top 14, because I have to imagine Oregon and Clemson jump them easily, and then it comes down to 1 or 2 teams stealing a spot.

I think what we all want to happen is for Duke and Michigan State to win though...

I guess there's a chance that they drop out of the top 14, making them ineligible for at large selection.

Otherwise, there's a really good chance. Obviously the Rose Bowl isn't going to take take a second PAC-12 team, and the Orange Bowl probably takes Alabama to replace FSU.

Someone is going to get stuck with UCF and Northern Illinois.

And then the last at-large team... Baylor? Oregon? AZ State?

The ESPN projections have it Sugar vs. Baylor if Ohio State loses or Orange Bowl vs. Clemson if Ohio State & FSU win.

There's virtually no way they drop out of the top 14 unless they get completely annihilated. That would require UCF to leapfrog LSU and MSU on the final day, which is really unlikely (UCF is so colossally undervalued by the coaches' poll alone that it almost certainly won't happen). Alternatively, LSU would have to be ranked ahead of them, which again isn't happening.

So they'll be eligible and honestly, it's not like their choices are especially great. They won't take the loser of the P12CG or Oregon, which leaves Clemson or MSU. Why would Clemson be a better pick? They wouldn't.
