You can't do it at your house?

Would I be asking if I could? It's a new rifle and will probably need a gunsmith to do it right.....

I am handy, but don't want to screw it up. Also don't have right tools to bore sight it.

Anywhere really. Jim's, boie's, Herbert's, cabelas, bass pro, academy, however it is my opinion that it would be in your best interest to learn how to do this by yourself. I don't trust some schmucko making min wage fooling with my stuff in the back of their shop. It is really not that hard and worth learning. What kind of rifle do you have? Do you need recommendations on bases and rings? Not poking at you, just giving my advice and trying to help a brother out.

I second this. I enjoy stuff like that though. Should be very easy for a .22. Unless of course it's not already tapped. Which is unlikely.

You can't mess it up to bad, but if you do, then take it yo the shop

Really not hard at all. All you need is a small screwdriver and a black Marks a lot. The scope mounts comes with an Allen wrench. Just make sure you buy the right mounts. They come with instructions.

The black Marks a lot is to cover any scratches to screw heads if you make any. That is what a gunsmith will use.

Also make sure your scope is level meaning not canted to either side.If you havent mounted one before, make sure the elevation is on the top and the windage knob is on the side.Dont get crazy with the allen/torx wrench either. You can crush your scope tube and break the screws.Good luck

Thanks to all the replies. I will give it a shot. Worst case, I take it to a gunsmith to fix it.

How would you bore site a .22 caliber?

You could shoot at a big target at 25 yards and adjust accordingly or you could get the bore site kit for cheap. They go in the muzzle and one you get it leveled you turn your crosshairs to match up with theirs. It will get you close enough to make adjustments.

Heberts does it for $30.

Cabelas does it for free if you buy the gun or scope from them.

Eduardo, if anywhere. He's good, but usually takes a while. Maybe not on something like a scope mount though.

I used to work at Bowies in the gun dept. I've seen them damage scopes first hand. I would never let them touch something I own.

A buddy of mine had Herbert's destroy a scope of his when removing it from one gun and placing it on another.

I agree with everyone else, do it yourself. Not hard. If you're in the Walker area, I can give you a hand. I have a brand new bore sight I'm wanting to try out.

Thanks. It's a Henry .22 caliber lever action. Gonna be a "Christmas Present" for me and the kids so I won't have it for a few weeks yet. I want to put see through scope rings so I can still use iron sites when necessary. I believe it has a narrow 3/8" rail. Hopefully can pick up some scope rings for $10-15 bucks. I already have a scope that I took off of another rifle. The taking off part was easy. Mounting for accuracy will be the trick!

If it's not expensive to shoot (meaning if it's 22lr) I wouldn't worry about it. Just start your shooting at 25 yards on a big piece of paper and adjust accordingly. Then move it out to 50, then to 100 if that's where you want your zero to be and continue adjusting accordingly.

I sighted my Aimpoint on my rifle a few weeks ago without bore sighting. Granted it was way off, it was easy to find it when I began at 25 yards.

I ordered the wheeler engineering bore sight. It has a attaches to the end of your bullet via magnet. Haven't used it yet, should be dropped off by the door today.

It's laser isn't centered on the bore necessarily, but it doesn't matter, it will still be within an 1/8th of an inch. More than enough for bore sighting.

Also ordered their aluminum scope leveler. See how well that works. Had their "level level level" but it was a pos. not that they are needed, but it's just another toy.

Their fat wrench is pretty nice, I would recommend. Takes away the temptation of over tightening screws.
