Knowing that the Wolverines have almost no shot at blanking the Buckeyes on Saturday at Michigan Stadium, a local car dealership is betting big on a new ad campaign.

Victory Honda in Monroe, Mich., is advertising that if you buy a brand new Honda through game day and Michigan shuts out Ohio State, you get to keep the car for free.

ballsy, but I'm not even sure diehards will take the bait.

They are all insured so it doesn't really matter.

Ya apparently people aren't aware of "hole in one" insurance.

Nah that's smart. It's getting people who are on the fence about buying that car a reason to buy it now. And like other people said, they're insured if it somehow backfired

I guess I'm confused on the insurance part of it all. Who would cover somebody just giving a car away on a gamble?

car company pays a premium to an insurer who in return agrees to pay all/some of the price of the car(s) in the event that the insurance is triggered.

They buy insurance policies to back it. Just like big payouts on hole in ones at golf tournaments (free cadillac, etc.) its backed by an insurance policy.

The only people who would take that bet are Ohio State players and coaches. Big opportunity for them.

How much would a 1-time policy like that cost anyway?

I don't know what it would take to insure a whole weeks worth of potential car sales, but the insurance dealers buy for hole-in-one prizes at golf tournaments is cheap enough to make it worth the dealers time to advertise at the tournament. Of course, the odds of someone making a hole in one are probably a lot lower than one football team shutting out another, even in this scenario.
