How to get more fans at PMAC???

Just wondering how is the best way to lure fans back to see Tiger basketball. I know winning more will help, but is there something else that can be done that could improve the situation in the meantime? We have a talented team, and it's a shame the games are not well attended and student section lacks gusto.
Back in my day as a student (late 70's/early 80's) the games were a blast and the PMAC full. Even later on in the 90's a lot of games were sold out. WTF??

Winning and awareness. Don't let a moment go without making sure people know how exciting these guys are to watch.

so glad somebody finally decided to discuss this topic!

its been said over and over but first we need to fix the student section. students should have all the low seats behind the goal they are at and then the middle section above that and move the band to the side of them.
The ad needs to do more to get the word out about games and the team.

Awareness to the general Baton Rouge public that basketball season is here.
LSU does a very poor job marketing basketball.
Need signs up in the parking lots for students, faculty, and staff indicating a game is coming up. Various points around town as well.

Return student section to their seats
Put the lazy media somewhere else.
Take all the season tickets from the oldtimers and sell them to the corporate fatcats.
Get back to the NCAA tourney.

Have the women's game on the same night, right before the men's, about 5:30 or so. Both play the same night, 2 for 1. High schools did this in North La. in the late 60's. We would all look at the girls first, then we would play next. Fun.

Not really. They sure as shite try. It's just hard to market something that hasn't been consistently good since the 80's. Give it time.

Good point, but how does this happen? Posting on this blog won't do it. Seriously, how does the ball get rolling?
I miss the old days when the PMAC rocked!!!

im not sure how that would really help attendance. I dont want to get to the pmac early and have a girls game still going on.
plus with games on tv they have to start at certain times so you can't have the games all that close

1960's North LA High School Bball =/= 2013 Division I College Basketball

id guess trying to email the admin but there really isn't much that can be done from a fans stand point. LSU likes doing dumb things, joe will probably consult with a firm on how to fix the basketball attendance problem and we will get another toonces.

I truly think the only way is a grass roots effort from current Tiger fans.

the only sure way is winning and students bitching about the terrible setup of the student section. I think once attendance picks up they might consider making a move if enough people bitch about how stupid the 1/3 lower level setup is.
as far as nonstudents i guess a grass roots effort could work.

It's more than just lsu. South louisiana is not basketball country. Basketball on all levels have a lack of support. For instance on the rant. Normal football seasons if you post a basketball thread then people act stupid and say it's football season. But you will never see someone during basketba season post football thread and someone say it's basketball season. Very small example I know lol

Step 1: Win
Step 2: Schedule Better (basketball fans aren't stupid, they know when a good team is coming in)
Step 3: ????
Step 4: Profit

Winning is the only cure. String together a few winning seasons and fans will show up consistently. Also, schedule a few big time non-conference games. It's hard to get fans out during the holidays to watch ULM and McNeese.

part of that is because basketball fans are better than that

This is probably true. Only a couple of my friends really give a shite about LSU hoops and every chance I get, I mention how exciting this team and the future of the program is to the others. The buzz needs to start at the bottom. I really do think LSU does a good job of getting the word out in ADs and such. Hell, I saw Mike the Tiger downtown handing out free tickets the other day. I see ads in the paper/online every day. They sent me two free tickets in the mail out of the blue. People are just skeptical of our program, and with good reason if they don't follow it closely. We haven't been consistently good since the 80's. And many are one-tracked minds (or two-tracked with baseball and football).
RE: The Student Section; It was moved to capitalize on selling those tickets for more money. In this day and age, it sure as shite won't get moved back. The best we can hope for there is either downsizing or moving the media section or doing the same with the band.
