As much as I fly, I will get arrested if they approve this. I will have to change my looking for possible Al Queda operatives to individuals speaking on their GD cell phone while sitting next to me.

How fricking out of touch are the FCC and airline execs with the real world?

I mean, a normal person would have laughed hysterically then punched whomever first brought this idea up.

I couldn't imagine how annoyed I'd be if some chump sitting next to me is leading a conference call

I doubt service is good enough up there to worry about rampant usage.

In fact, I know sprint doesn't work at 35k feet.

They're going to allow special antennas to improve reception. Hope they have a $10/minute surcharge.

From high altitudes, the call quality is not very good, and most callers will experience drops. Although calls are not reliable, callers can pick up and hold calls for a little while below a certain altitude.

How much would it suck to now sit next to a fat, foreign woman with a cough, crying baby on her lap, and on her cellphone?

its not the governments job to control when and where we use cellphones. However, if enough people are upset at others using cellphones on planes, then airlines would fill that demand by offering flights where cellphone usage is not allowed.

Wifi on planes is via 3G signals from the ground.

Is the wifi signal strong enough to use FaceTime?

re: U.S. To Consider Cellphone Use On Planes

I'm just saying I've tried a few times to send a text mid-flight and it never worked.

And if it's offered through some service offers by the airline, it's going to cost money. And most people will not buy it.

My entire point is the dramatic lamentations of the possibility of being able to use a phone on an airplane are a bit over the top.
