I just watched the UMass game again on Geaux Zone. When you take in all of the negatives that we had go against us in that game and we still only lost by two, it has to give you a lot of confidence in this team.
Consider:
1. We didn't shoot well from two, three or free throws.
2. We lost one of our highly touted freshmen when the game was only minutes old.
3. The referee's made many highly questionable calls. Okay some were against our opponent but we still had more go against us than they did.
4. One of those questionable calls put JOB on the bench in the second half when he was playing great.
5. Quarterman played like a freshman in his first big game on the road. He will get much better.
6. Our other freshman who played, Jordan Mickey, had a nice game but it could have been even better. He missed four or five putbacks that could just have easily gone in.
So I think this will be a good team, maybe even a great team, by the time SEC rolls around. Geaux Tigers, look forward to the next game Saturday!

That could be a problem in some games

Disagree on one point. We shot great from behind the arc IMO until we started jacking up shots at the end of the game.

Agreed. Coleman and Morgan had rough nights, but we were shooting decently outside of the forced shots at the end.

They did not look as bad as some made it out to be. I think JJ will get them going soon enough.

Who said they look bad?
All things considered I really really liked how we looked.

free throws
I'm sure this is being addressed in practice, but it needs to be fixed soon. This can't continue to be a problem especially with the new foul rules.

An LSU alumnus friend of mine. Yes, i think he was wrong also.

Barring injuries, this team is going to have a special season.

TBH I don't think it'll ever be fixed this year unless our fresh can hit 80% from the line.
It was consistently bad this year, bad vs Xavier and bad vs UMASS. obvious trend unfortunately

That's what I'm starting to think as well. I understand that some guys (Hickey) will never be very good FT shooters, but I think the potential is there with some of the others.

To me, practicing free throws is something that a player can and should be spending a lot of time doing on their own time. At least you hope that's what would happen.
They're only allowed so many hours of practice a week and it's tough to waste that time standing around shooting free throws.

I agree, but at some point it becomes an issue for the coaching staff (I'm sure that point has been reached). It's dang close to free points, and should be a focus for every player.

It's extremely important but good free throw shooting comes with repetition. Which is why I hope some of the guys would take it upon themselves to shoot free throws on their own time.

Funny how things as simple as free throw shooting can fall by the wayside.

quote:Yes, it wasn't bad it just wasn't good. Let me rephrase. Andre Stringer had his usual great shooting night(7-14) and hit well from three(3-7) and was perfect at the free throw line(4-4).
Disagree on one point. We shot great from behind the arc IMO until we started jacking up shots at the end of the game.
Hickey, on the other hand, did not shoot well. He was 6-14 overall and only 3-10 from three. Why Hickey tries to shoot so many three's when with the new rule and his quickness he should be driving the lane more, is beyond me.
I especially don't understand why he shoots more from there than Stringer who is so much better. If Stringer takes three more shots from beyond the arc and makes one it might have been the difference in the game.
There was another play involving Hickey that stands out in my mind also. It was late in the game and he had a break away fast break with a wide open Quarterman on his left. Even though Quarterman was open he took it all the way to the goal. That was okay, he didn't trust the freshman yet I guess. But then he misses the layup, Mickey misses the easy putback and they rebound, come down and score. That was a back breaker. Hope in the future Hickey hits the open man on the break and even better drives the lane and kicks out to Stringer for a three rather than trying it himself.

There's been a good energy since the new coach came to town...hope will last for a while...the fans need something positive to think about!

I agree think they will be better than last few years. With this new rule , they will need to get better at free throws , missed several front ends of 1&1. New rule sucks, 54 calls in 1 game that's crazy
