If you've followed LSU football for more than two decades you know there is a long history of:

1. Our fanbase wanting the head coach fired.....Charlie Mac had plenty of haters ("Help Mac Pack") and no coach since him has escaped this.

2 Quarterback controvery - lord, where do you start: Jones or Lyons....dozens of examples.

We have some new "givens"

3. We should contend for the NC every year. We didn't have a serious run at a title between 1960 and 2002, but now it's expected.
4. We should never lose a game we are an underdog in. If we do...see #1.

Oh, the usual comeback to this is "What's wrong with not settling for mediocracy." You're either all good or bad. Like the Buffalo Bills of the 1990s, if you lose four Superbowls you are a loser. I once heard a fan in the Superdome say this after his high school won the state title with a perfect 15-0 record, "Yeah, we won another title and all but we could have beaten some of the teams we did by larger margins."

I guess the point is that there will always be dissatisfied fans.

Alabama owned us back then

Alabama owns us now

I will not be happy until that changes. I will not be happy with 11-2 if Alabama wins the NC.

as Saban called it back in 2001, "Catastrophe Syndrome"

Woe is us.

This is a point I've been trying to make. We weren't very good for four decades in the past so we shouldn't expect to be good now. We're no Michigan or Nebraska.

bullshite, I don't want to be the Mack Brown/UT of the SEC. Getting to the NC game in 2011 allows you to have a 10-3 season the following year and things still are ok. But now if we go 9-4 o4 8-5 this year with A&M, Ole Piss and Auburn starting to see major success how long can you ride on the coattails of seasons past. 2014 with all the losses on offense this year is looking at 10-3, 9-4 or 8-5 again so then it's 3 seasons in a row of not playing for any titles. You can only ride on past seasons coattails for 2 years max then with what our coach is making it should be "what have you done for me lately!!!!"

LSU has 3 championships since the 1950s.

Michigan has 1/2 in that same time.

Try again.

Well with that mentality we never will be.

We weren't lucky enough back then to have hired a Woody Hayes or a Bear Bryant type coach. The material to be that kind of a program has always been there. There is nothing those schools have that we don't and in fact under current conditions we are set up better than they are.

You can have high expectations without being totally unreasonable, but attacking the expectations part of the equation is pretty dumb. We should not be happy with 8-4.

When exactly were we bad in the last 60 years?

late 70s
Archer/Hallman era
End of DiNardo era

When else?

Yeah the "not very good" comment was just ignorant. LSU is a top 10-12 all time program even pre-2000

We should be thrilled to have a winning season every year. That didn't happen in the past. Texas had a losing season recently, and there's no way we're as good as Texas as a program.

Well said!!! I agree 1,000%

If anything the past decade of Tiger football should show us that we shouldn't accept less that if we put a wall around Louisiana and not let the talent out of the state and with the right coaches we are a top 5 program every single year. We are paying our coach enough to demand excellence and settle for nothing less. I don't give a shite about records I give a shite about titles, this past decade should have proven to everyone in Tigerland that LSU should be playing for titles on a regular basis and nothing short of that should be acceptable. We have way too much talent in the state that grow up being Tiger fans throw up a wall don't allow the Collins and the CRob's etc... to leave and that will happen.

Expectations have drastically changed

You morons fail to understand when you pay a coach 4 fricking million dollars a year, the team should be competing for the SEC every year.

BS. nobody said that. Plenty just want an sec title every 3 years or 3 in 10 years. No NC's even mentioned. You win the sec on that schedule they will follow. Nobody here expects to win 3 out of 4 like bama has.

EPIC FAIL. but nice try.
