Mrs. Griffin should be commended for proposing
the split playoffs. Other principals supported
her proposal by about a 2 to 1 margin. The split
was long overdue. Non-select schools will
proudly accept their championship trophies.

Most of the ones griping about the split are
the Select schools' supporters who will not
accept the FACT that certain Select schools
abused their right to even be in the LHSAA
by making themselves football factories.

Case in point: How many John Curtis High School
football players actually pay their own tuition?
When Winnfield played JC in the championship
game in 2011, JC had about 90-100 kids dressed
for the game. Yes, some were freshmen but 100
football players in a school with less than 200
boys in grades 9 through 12?

Take your rose-colored glasses off and admit
that Select schools have certain advantages
that do not make a level playing field, even
if they don't outright recruit players.

The split is here to stay. Some modifications
may be made at the annual meeting in January 2014
but nearly all public schools will still be
happy with the split.

To those Select school supporters who want to
leave the LHSAA and form their own association,
I will say that probably less than half of
Selects would vote to leave. As for taking your
money and leaving the LHSAA in a financial bind,
this, too, is a joke. When Winnfield played
John Curtis in 2011 we had twice as many fans
as JC, with Winnfield having to travel 250 miles
and JC less than 20 miles from the Superdome

Other than their own families and a few others,
nobody gives a damn about private schools.
Goodbye and good riddance.

AND THANK YOU WINNFIELD PRINCIPAL JANE GRIFFIN!

And with that, the gentleman from Winnfield yields back the balance of his time.

I for one agree with the OP. The current split/playoff set up may not be tne best and may need some modification, but the rationale for the split was real and correct.

And before anyone wants to jump on me for this, I went to a private school (LISA member Glenbrook Class of 1985) so I am NOT anti-private. All I've ever wanted is consistent rules for all schools.

And yes, I see Dr. Griffin on nearly a daily basis and she is as solid a person as there is. She's taken a beating in some circles but many, many people in Louisiana respect her courage to take a stand.

Soon enough the split will happen in more than just football and then this convoluted bs will taint all lhsaa athletic championships. Winfield (and Many for that matter) are just sore losers.

Okay so if there is some wrong with the way certain schools operate, that doesn't mean blow up a good system for all schools.

Not true at all Jason. All we've ever asked for is consistency in the rules. Heck, I have two first cousins who started for Curtis and now start at Nichols. But when one school can legally draw kids from a wide area and other schools have a limited area from which to draw, it's inherently unfair. And I agree it's the LHSAA's fault for allowing these inconsistent rules in the first place. I'm not saying the split in its current form is Nirvana, and I'm well aware some private schools got shafted in the current split. And that's not fair either. But something had to be done, and I hope we can find a way to make it fair for ALL involved.

chalmetteowl, I agree on principle. Changing an unfair system and replacing it with another unfair system is certainly not a solution. My hope is that the powers that be can come up with a system-wide set of rules and regulations that will make every satisfied. Not sure that is even possible, but it's at least worth hoping for

And one more point: for me, at least, this has NEVER been about so called "recruiting". I'm not naive enough to think that some form of recruiting happens in a wide array of private and public schools. It has always been strictly about zones from which schools can draw students for me.

On principle I'd support public school divisions versus charter and private schools.

'recruiting' schools vs public schools.

This wouldn't be a problem if 5A schools just sucked it up and let ECA and JC play up again.
