He bulked up to 230 and that makes him a defensive end for Chief

Sadly you aren't off bass here.

Beckwith is an ideal LBer

But Chavis wants him to be a DE

Last I heard, this was the official story line from the coaches. Because of depth issues at DE he spent the entire spring and most of fall practice working at DE. Once the coaches decided they had enough bodies at DE, he was too far behind the other LB's to catch up this year so he is being redshirted. Not sure if I buy all that, and I also think that if he had enough talent to supplant Welter they would have burned that redshirt by now.

I was kidding but I would like to see Beckwith get a shot a MLB. He can't be worse. He would have more upside.

So basically he was completely mismanaged by chief

Pretty disappointing honestly.

Beckwith burned a redshirt for what? 4 games?

I sat behind his family behind the LSU Bench for the Furman game. Didn't look like he transferred to me - especially since his is still on the roster....

Doesn't mean a thing. Lamar Louis has shown he's way ahead of Welter in terms of talent, yet he rides the pine.

Correct answer...

I wouldn't say "way ahead". He is a much better athlete than Welter to be sure, but he has had multiple opportunities to really take the position over but hasn't shown much.

If he was head and shoulders above DJ, both in practice performance and games, I have no doubt Chief would have him out there.

He, just like DJ, has shown no real instincts for making "runfits" that are up to snuff. You can coach em all you want, but a great LB is like a great RB, they need to have the instincts to "run to daylight" to be able to be effective in stopping the run.

welter does neither, and he'll be the starter in that spot next year too I would imagine.

I don't want to bash welter. I'm sure he's a good kid.

But seriously, go watch the bama game when he's in if you can stomach it.

He's really just a lost puppy out there.

Its amazing how all of the Lamar Louis crowd has disappeared

The real crime was that this guy was never turned into a LB. He's bigger, faster and more physical than every LB we have.

Sometimes the players just don't pan out, happens all the time. Starting or playing a significant amount of downs at LSU is a hell of an achievement. It's as big time as it gets on the college level.

Blue could at least be playing safety if Magee is going to be the backup tailback. At least Howard would not have scored on a 10 yard crossing route near midfield.
