we have a mediocre to bad defensive line. i believe that's why miles and company want beckworth at DL. i actually feel pretty good about next years defense knowing the talent we recruited at DL last year. i think we will see much better LB and secondary play immediately if we can put an improved DL out there.

Ummm it's a combo of shitty line play and the backers not getting off blocks or beating blocks and making plays.

We also are one of the poorest tackling teams I've seen at lsu in a long time. Maybe we should hire a tackling coach.

And your problem is you need to have your eyes checked.

the linebackers are part of the problem but the root of the LSU problem is a work ethic and strength problem. our dline is pillow biting soft, they got owned way more than they should and it only makes the linebacker problem worse.

No one on the defense is playing as well as I expected. But I cannot remember seeing linebacker play this bad at LSU...ever. Welter and Barrow have been out of position and/or overpowered all season. I have not seen Welter make any plays at or around the line of scrimmage all season, and Barrow has only made a few. Watching them fill the wrong hole, or just stick like flypaper to the first offensive player that blocks them has been astounding.

The other think that has been confusing is watching them ob blitzes this season. It almost looks like the LBs are instructed to occupy a blocker when they blitz. Instead of looking for a gap, it seems that they look for a blocker to stick to.

while this may be true (i honestly have no info to support or refute it), what concrete info do you have to support your statement? this could be a huge problem if true.

In terms of our DL stopping the run, the play of the LB's is critical in how the DL appears in run stopping. They go hand in hand and compliment each other. Our DL play has not been stellar, but it would be much better if the LB's were doing their jobs. Yes, Welter is bad, but the play of Lamin Barrow has been atrocious. Absolutely terrible.

Dline is the biggest problem.

I have noticed this as well ... It's amazing how bad we are at blitzing.

You're exactly right. It's hard to make plays at LB when the DL isn't taking care of their assignments -
That said, Welter has no business being on the field and I refuse to believe there isn't a better option. He's slow, weak, and lacks natural instinct. He would have looked great in a Ragin Cajun Uni

2 linebackers stood out to me in the beginning of the season during mop up play and it was Kenny Phillips and Kendall beckwith and neither one of these guys has played another down at linebacker since we started sec play.

Our D line consistently gets knocked back anywhere from 2-4 yards at the snap on running plays. Even at the beginning of games.

Youre being kind. Way too kind, esp for a pair of supposedly NFL-ready tackles.

the defenses problem is the DL, LBs, DBs, position coaches, and D-Coord.

All 3 levels of the defense aren't playing well, but you are correct. If you have bad DL play, all other levels of the D will suffer. LBers have less of a chance to make plays, and DB's cant stop separation if they have to cover for 8 seconds.
