I think we need to score early and often to beat the 49ers. They have a good defense, but against good teams, their offense has played like crap.

quote:

In their three losses - to Seattle (9-1), Indianapolis (6-3) and Carolina (6-3) - the 49ers have averaged 5.7 points and Kaepernick has committed seven turnovers and posted a 35.0 passer rating. The combined score in those losses: 66-19.

quote:

Kaepernick (11-for-22, 91 yards) was sacked six times by Carolina

It may also help us that San Fran got beat up pretty bad by Carolina.

quote:

Defensive tackle Ray McDonald (ankle) didn't play in the second half, and safety Eric Reid exited in the third quarter with his second concussion of the season. In addition, tight end Garrett Celek (hamstring) was injured early in the first quarter, leaving the 49ers with one tight end - rookie Vance McDonald - after Davis went to the locker room.

I think we may have a chance to make a play on special teams. LaMichael James made his debut as a punt returner. A fumble or mistake on his part could swing a close game.

quote:

In a search for silver linings after their 10-9 loss to the Panthers on Sunday, the 49ers might identify the performance of running back LaMichael James.

After he was a healthy scratch for the previous three games, the 2012 second-round pick averaged 11.7 yards on three attempts in his NFL debut as a punt returner.

I'm hopeful there will be some fracturing of team chemistry after last weeks loss. That type of play can either bring a team together or split them up.

quote:

-Linebacker NaVorro Bowman had a bolt of honesty after the game. Hopefully, his comments won’t be taken the wrong way. Bowman is a team player, but after a sterling defensive effort, Bowman wanted a little help from the offense. Who wouldn’t?

“We as a defense can’t control anything that’s going on on the other side of the ball,” Bowman said. “That’s the stressful part about having a good game, knowing you are playing well. You can’t control the other side. We as a defense, we are going to go back and always get better. But that’s a tough loss for us.”

It was a sentiment shared by wide receiver Anquan Boldin.

“Defensively, we played a great game,” Boldin said. “(The defense) gave us a chance to win, held the opponent to 10 points. Offensively we didn’t get it done.”

How much will Aldon Smith play?

quote:

Smith did not start the game. He played only 11 snaps, exclusively in third-down nickel situations.

quote:

despite the glowing praise he received during the week from coaches, Smith’s snaps were limited. That was exactly what some sources within the organization promised: that Smith would have to earn his way back into his former role.

quote:

Smith didn’t show up on the defensive statistics but looked good when he was in the game and said he was prepared to play every snap.

Coming into the game

49ers 22nd

Offensive Points per Game
Saints 2nd
49ers 10th

Defensive Yards per Game
49ers 5th

We have to play a physical game. Power running. We can't sit back and let them tee off on us.

On defense, load the box. Gap discipline. Dare em to throw it.

Exactly. If we let them stick to that run game, they could keep it low scoring like they want

If for any reason we go up two touchdowns on the niners, or most teams for that matter, they're done.

If we go up two touchdowns in the first quarter, against this quarterback, we are going to annihilate them. The first half will be huge. If we come out with a 2 TD lead, and the game is put on kaepernick's shoulders, holy shite we are going to roll them.

Agree

We have to play a physical game. Power running.

1) Can we do that? Do we have the offensive line to just start playing physical all of a sudden?

2) WILL we do that? Payton ran the ball a lot against the Cowboys, but that doesn't mean he will stick to it this week.

I'd almost like to see us deactivate Toon and activate Robinson for this game. Pound it up the middle with Thomas, Ingram, Robinson and Sproles.

people who are unhappy with the offense this year are silly, but I do get the desire to see it earlier in the game.

frick loading the box and forcing kaep to throw. Put up points early and force kaep to throw and play the pass

I feel really good about this game. I think we win by 7-10, if we get up early, I'm thinking this will be a 3-4 touchdown housing.

Similar to what happened against the cowboys. To start the second quarter, every play for the cowboys was essentially a passing situation.

We do that to the niners, and we have it in the bag.

It's prolly pretty clear to everyone how much better the Saints offense is than the niners.

What I don't think is as clear, even to us, is how good the Saints D is evolving. The boys are a powerful offensive team that didn't just get outscored- they were shut down.

Yes, we have seen the weaknesses in the run D but bottom line I think they are more than up to facing the niners.

They have the big defensive reputation but let's compare them to this 2013 Saints defense...

Saints/niners
Points allowed 163/155
Yards allowed 2858/2851
Turnovers 15/18
First Downs by Defensive penalty 10/17
First Downs allowed 156/162
Passing Yds allowed 1799/1903
Interceptions 9/10
Rushing Yds allowed 1059/948

Respect'em but don't fear the niners D

Probably the worst thing to do, considering Kaep is basically Jesus. He would shred this team. Need to worry about stopping the future GOAT.

Kaep doesn't make his progressions. He looks down the first receiver, if it isn't there he panics and starts scrambling

Keep a spy on him and take away his first option...sounds easy, but what do I know.

Whatever happens, I just hope the burden switches from gore and the running game to kaepernicka and the passing game...they don't stand a chance with him throwing the ball 30 times.

I'm sure we'll see lots of screens as well

I stand corrected, once we went up 21-10, the boys abandoned the run. I don't think SF will give up on it that easy, but we need to get a couple of stops and put them in a hole early and this will be smooth sailing

otherwise, who knows

Going to be a lot harder for the Saints to open up a wide margin early against the 9ers defense. Also if the 9ers are smart they'll run 60% of the time or more.

Way easier said than done. We haven't exactly been great about getting big leads in teams.

In? No. On? Yes.

The only game in the dome that was close was Atlanta.
