I caught a grass snake for my 5yo to play with. I've never subscribed to the "only dead snake is a good one". Mrs demon freaked the frick out though.

I've never had the desire to touch any of them. I picked up a snake once and my hands smelled so bad that I put diesel on them to de-fonk them until I could get to the sink.

Beheaded this harmless one while blood trailing a deer. One more down.

Lol... Grown men who quiver at a harmless snake are a joke. Venomous snakes, I understand. But, the most incredible animal I have ever seen in the wild was a 7+ foot female eastern diamond back at my uncle's place. No bucks could be taken under 8 points. If you killed her you would have been banned from the property faster than violating the buck rule.

Her territory was known to all hunters.

Where did you get the snake? Was it wild?

I feel like a pussy.

If I let harmless snakes live, but they still freak me out, am I a good guy or bad guy?

I recently caught a garter snake about that size and kept it for a couple of weeks then let it go.

Of course, a couple weeks before, I was snake hunting around the pond and killed a water snake. I was pretty sure it wasn't a moccasin as I was pulling the trigger but wasn't taking any chances. Impersonating a poisonous snake is grounds for killing a non-poisonous one in my book.
