Bayou Beer Festival in Houma

quote:

Jim Barrett and Joel Ohmer of Houma want you to know that craft beer is getting serious down in the bayou. The longtime friends founded the Bayou Beer Society last year when Ohmer says they realized “if you wanted to do anything with beer, you really had to go to New Orleans.” They decided to change that through education, advocacy and events.

The society is holding its first event, the Bayou Beer Festival, Sat. Nov. 16 on the grounds of Houma’s Southdown Plantation. Organizers suggest arriving as close to the noon start time as possible in order to experience the full array of local and non-local craft beer, as well as homebrew. Tours of the plantation are free for festival attendees, and music will be provided by Soul Creole. All proceeds from the event will go to charities which serve Louisiana veterans.

The Festival’s tickets-for-beer format is based on the annual LA-SPCA beer fundraising event, New Orleans On Tap (NOOT). Louisiana breweries will be participating by selling their beer. Bayou Teche is creating a special “Bananas Foster” beer to serve to everyone as they enter the festival. It’s their Biere Noir with banana, brown sugar, chocolate, cinnamon and vanilla.

I knew about the Houma one. If I wouldn't be going to Austin I'd be at one of those.
