Reveille: "Opinion: LSU fans need to let go jealousy, hatred of Nick Saban"

Could not agree more that the main reason people have never liked Miles from day 1 is because of his quirky persona. The man knows more about football than any run of the mill LSU fan and obviously more than most college football coaches.
Yes he is different and goofy, but that doesn't make him less of a coach. Make up other reasons as to why you hate him, but many have disliked him since he first got here simply because he's a nicer guy than Saban.

Because of Saban, everything LSU does is measured against the Tide. And from the 2012 BCS National Championship debacle to falling short last season, the constant comparisons have whipped Baton Rouge into a jealous rage that led to the annual celebration of “Alabama Hate Week.”
For their own good, LSU fans need to realize that Saban is gone and he’s not coming back. It’s time to get over the obsessive hatred and jealousy and appreciate the fact that they got an excellent football coach in Les Miles to come in and replace Saban.

However, his body of work at LSU can’t be questioned. Miles has the highest winning percentage of any coach in LSU history, higher than Saban or past legends like Dietzel or Charlie McClendon.
Saban should be credited with reviving a struggling program and returning LSU to national relevance. But Miles built on what Saban started, and his tenure has launched the program into the highest order of national powerhouses.
In little more than a decade, a 10-win season at LSU has gone from a pipe dream to a disappointment. The Tigers have become a perennial top-10 team and Miles doesn’t receive nearly as much credit as he deserves for that transformation.
The reason is his persona. To the outside observer, Miles appears zany and borderline clueless, and when his teams finish second to an iron-willed disciplinarian like Saban, his player-friendly coaching style is pointed to as the reason.
A fellow Reveille reporter recently told me Miles would never win another championship at LSU because he’s too friendly with his players. That’s an asinine statement because Saban is the only true disciplinarian still having success in today’s NCAA environment.

I don't know a single LSU fan that is clinging to the idea that Saban could come back.

Makes some great points and really hit the nail on the head IMO. However, this thread will get ripped apart with negativity because:
1. It's positive and speaks highly of Miles
2. It's The Reveille

I know several who think that its possible that saban could or would come back- and there are a few posters on this very board who think saban actually wanted to come back after Miami. I for one thank God that he didnt and wont.

People who start threads on the TR should get burned with a match. Who gives a damn - he isn't our coach and we should be content or even happy with Miles despite his occasional bonehead calls.

While I agree that he won't ever come back why would you thank God that he didn't and won't come back? Do you hate winning national championships?

I wouldn't want him back. That ship has sailed.

No matter--you folks will see in the next 10 years that you are glad Saban left. The success he acchieved at Bama will dull in the light of what is going to happen.

Who the frick would want Saban to come back to LSU? That is ridiculously absurd.

Good god the Reville has went to shite since I graduated

I agree, but when he loses to Ole Miss those people including myself get pissed off sorry for not wanting to lose to the Ole Pisses of the world. By the way if he beats Bama this weekend all that will go away. Until a 3 point win over a overmatched Arkansas.

It's not so much clingling as it is hoping; of which I know several who do.

Hmmmmm. And his teams are currently dominating that "environment".
Maybe the pendulum needs to swing a bit more toward "true disciplinarians" over "players coaches" for others to be similarly successful.

A Reveille article with a postive spin on LSU and CLM? Interdasting, they're usually negative fricktards thirsty for clicks.

Don't want Little Nicky back. Do want him to leave UA-T for UT.

I think it's really sad that articles like this even have to be written, 9 years after the dude has been gone.
