The Wolverine Sequel

quote:

Hugh Jackman better shine up his claws: A new “Wolverine” film is in the works, with James Mangold in negotiations to write the treatment.

No storyline details were released for the 20th Century Fox film, which Lauren Shuler Donner will produce.

The sequel, which will be the third solo Wolverine film, may have seemed like a given since Mangold’s “The Wolverine” was the second-highest grossing “X-Men” film. So far it has earned $413 million worldwide, $132.36 million domestic and $280.73 million internationally.

The fast-healing mutant will rejoin his “X Men” teammates in next summer’s “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” which brings director Bryan Singer back to the franchise.

Mangold’s other writing credits include “Cop Land” and “Walk the Line.” He directed both films, as well as “The Wolverine.”

Would rather see a Deadpool movie actually get made, dammit.

NEWS ON THE DEADPOOL MOVIE

quote:

First portraying a version of the scarred and unstable mercenary in Gavin Hood's “X-Men Origins: Wolverine," Reynolds has repeatedly attempted to push a hard-R version of the story through 20th Century Fox with director /visual effects specialist Tim Miller. However, after an extended push-back from the studio, the director and actor have spoken up about their clinging hopes for bringing it to fruition.

Talking to ClevverMovies recently (via Dark Horizons), Miller revealed that “Zombieland” screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have turned in a new draft of “Deadpool” to Fox, and now they're just waiting on the studio to acknowledge its possibilities. “ 'Deadpool' is still alive, and we're just waiting for the studio to embrace what an amazingly fricking awesome film this would be,” he said. “Ryan is ready, I am ready, the fans are more than ready, we just need that elusive green light.”

...

“The script is probably available online, it leaked,” he said. “But it's very meta, I mean the character knows he's in a movie, he knows he's in a comic book. He names studio executives in the script. So, it's kind of a risky property. But, you know, we'll see.”

So I guess Jackman decided he should take the rumored $100 million to play Wolverine 4 more times?

I'm all for superhero movies, but my god, when will the Wolverine movies end? There are PLENTY of cool superheroes that don't have movies yet.

totally agree. If the wolverine movies were cool at all it would be one thing, but they suck. horribly. and they have ruined other superheros in them. Like Deadpool. and Gambit.

I get what you are all saying, but they are making money. Where movies with very cool superheros are also being made and tanking for one reason or another.

Green Lantern is a great comic, but this movie was considered a bomb. Granted, it was poor execution, but aren't you arguing that the Wolverine movies were poorly executed, as well?

Fantastic 4, somewhat well known and done horribly. I don't think anyone is clamoring for any more of these.

Green Hornet, pretty entertaining actually. But didn't do nearly as well as Wolverine because it's not very well known.

I can see them doing a lot of the ones the fanboys really want to see, but unfortunately, most will bust.

Wolverine fatigue has definitely set in.

I thought the most recent installment was awful.

And Jackman can cash in, sure. But he can absolutely do it in other roles. Playing Wolverine is insanely taxing on his body. I bet it sucks.

I'd love to see a reboot of fantastic four.

What's taxing about it? Does he do his own stunts? Most of that last installment was him yelling with CGI all around him. Taxing on his vocal chords ill give you.

Two things on this:

I actually think Wolverine is a great character, but they aren't doing great things with him (Although, the movies are good. I liked the last one).

There are better Wolverine stories to tell, and THAT'S my problem. I don't think fatigue would be setting in if they did Old Man Logan or even Coyote Crossing.

They mucked up his Origin, and the best part of X-Men Origins:Wolverine can't really be done.

Wolverine also doesn't work well alone, see all of the side characters they have to use in the two solo outing films. He always worked best as a foil to Cyclops or PX, Kitty Pryde or Jubilee, Hulk or Beast. So if you do a Wolverine movie you need a strong character opposite him to play off of. Not a sidekick, a real character, with real goals other than to serve Wolverine.

There is an opportunity, if they want to stay in this X Universe and do more Wolverine films, to fix everything with Days of Future Past. I know Fox isn't that forward thinking, they shoot from the hip. But think about it. You could spin off the Old Man Logan storyline from this film add some current Xverse villains and heroes and have a great movie. You could redo Wolverine's Origin or give a kid (X-23).

YOU COULD BRING CYCLOPS BACK IN THE END! And then go for the Schism arc. Getting the best of both worlds. Recast Cyclops with an intense actor (Jon Bernthal, Joel Edgerton, etc.) and have one of the best stories to tell. We'd already "know" the X-Men on film, so you can jump right into the World Changing and Cyclops and Wolverine switching roles.

Of course, they won't do this. It's too good of an idea.

Obviously, you have never set foot in a gym before or been on a diet. Did you see him the Wolverine? The guy had like 2% body fat and was absolutely jacked. All this after being rather emaciated for Les Mis. His workout for the Wolverine was insane and very taxing.

That said, I enjoyed the Wolverine for what it was. Pretty mindless entertainment. I think he's great as Wolverine and I could stand another installment, as long as it is original and well made, which it won't be. I'd rather they move on to other superheroes, though. Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson (completely separated from the horseshite Wade Wilson he played in Origins) would be off the charts fun. I could also stand Chris Pine doing that role as well, but he's just not quite as smarmy as Reynolds can be.

Really enjoyed The Wolverine and First Class, so I can't complain with more X-men movies.

There's been a lot of superhero movies lately, but not too many I haven't liked recently besides Green Lantern.

It's hard to do that in real life.

It's not that hard with a dietician and a chef and a trainer and your only job every day is to go to the gym.

Um.

It's still considerable effort to get to that.

Having support and the knowledge of millions are on the other side of the rainbow helps.

But to reach that point you still have to push your limits, day after day.

It is easier to do it with money and a chef/dietician. But the mental strain/work it takes is huge. You're really talking out of your arse on this one.

They have to. There's either a window of 8-10 years in which, if Fox has not started filming a new Fantastic Four movie by then, the rights revert to Disney/Marvel.

The last movie came out in 2007.

Case in point - the following characters have reverted back to Marvel:

Daredevil - from Fox...but Elektra has not

Punisher - from Lion's Gate

Blade - from New Line/Time Warner
