Electric or Gas smoker? Is it worth the extra $ to go electric?

I've been wanting a smoker and my wife has been wanting to get me one for a while. She insisted that she get me one this year for Christmas. Other than the convenience of electric over gas, are there any other perks for choosing electric over gas?

You may want to smoke where there is no electricity.
I have no experience with either kind of smoker though. Sick of baby sitting wood/coal though I can tell you that much. Set it and forget it would be nice.

If you get a good one, you don't really have to baby sit it.

Neither, get a traditional smoker. you will never be able to recreate the bark acquired from smoking with charcoal and logs with electricity or gas.

electric is soooo nice. set it and forget it. no one will convince me otherwise. you can add different types of wood chips and get all the flavors you are looking for.

Electric has its benefits and produces good meat, but its not the same.

My buddy from Texas does wood only smoking.
The brisket is just unreal.

my dad had an electric. he does unbelieveable brisket, salmon, chicken, whole filet, etc. I would put it against and wood smoked stuff out there.

If you are new to the smoking game a sure fire way to get consistent results is a good LP/ type smoker. Its easy to set up, easy to maintain temp, and can cook a little hotter than electric if you need to.
If you like tending a fire and going the more traditional route an offset wood smoker is hard to beat.

The little electric masterbuilt is super cheap and easy
It does max out at 275 degrees though, which is fine for what I use it for
