I thinks it's a pretty solid list. It manages to include everything from early silent horror to Italian giallos

One of my favorite Carpenter films. But's like saying this is one of my favorite types of pizza. I have at least 7 favorite Carpenter movies.

I got Prince of Darkness next on my Carpenter list. There's still a handful of his movies I haven't seen yet.

No original Halloween 2. List is invalid. The recent shopping mall dawn of the dead should have made the list.

Honestly, horror is the genre I really can't get into. I just feel that over every other genre, it relies on our main character's stupidity the most. Now there are some great ones, like the Shining, Psycho, and Blue Velvet, but I just think the quality in the genre as a whole isn't as good as most.

Also I wouldn't classify a sizable portion of this list as horror films.

Would disagree. The quality is there, there are just more horror films released than historical fictions, easily; therefore, there's a lot more crap. And great horror is a bit more tough to explain, just like comedy, horror can be different to different kinds of people.

Example? Explain?

Horror'sm primary purpose is to disturb/unsettle, not necessarily "to scare." Horror is also represented in a lot of other genres based on that premise. I don't think I see a single movie on this list that wouldn't be horror, so I'm interested in the discussion.

This is clearly a list made by film fans who aren't huge horror buffs. They are going more for good films and psychological horror, as that plays better on the film fest circuit. But there's a definite shortage of good, trashy scare the shite out of you horror on this list.

Film geeks don't like visceral horror films. It makes them feel bad to not be able to use their minds and actually have to use the lizard part of the brain instead. Reminds them they are just a bunch of animals. Aren't we all?

Silence of the Lambs, Jaws, and Invasion of the Body Snatchers I would certainly not classify as horror films, merely thrillers and sci-fi in BS case. They can be frightening, but they're not horror.

It's a weird list for sure. I think they tried to have a consistent definition for horror, and that just didn't work.
